It's a devastating fact that during the first half of 2022, Florida has had 14 mass shootings (defined as 4 or more victims shot or killed). And that's not including the over 290 mass shootings that have occurred nationwide this year alone.

Gun violence has still not been taken as seriously as it should be on the national level, but we can still make an impact on the local level. The GoDDsville Dream Defenders Transformative Justice Committee is opening up a virtual space TONIGHT, June 29, at 7pm to explore Transformative Justice approaches to preventing and healing from gun violence. Join the conversation by registering at bit.ly/SeizeTheCycle!

🌟 Black Mothers Matter! 🌟 Last month, we partnered with Moms Demand Action to honor Black mothers and to stand in solidarity with Heaven Thompson, who lost her baby daughter Ava at the hands of the Alachua County Jail.

“Alachua County Jail’s inability to acknowledge this harm and the injustice that took place is an injustice in itself,” said in a speech.

Robin Lillies of Moms Demand Action delivered these words as part of a poem she read:
“We fight extra hard to prove ourselves
with the challenges we face every day,
hoping you see our struggles
and hear us when we say,
‘Black Mothers Matter.’
We’ll matter tomorrow,
we matter today.”
