Happy Summer, Partners! Here are some highlights for this June:
Alachua County Library Bookmobile: The library is coming to you Thursday, June 25th 4pm - 6pm! The Alachua County Bookmobile is bringing books, audiobooks, and more for all ages right to your neighborhood. Stop by to browse, check out items, or sign up for a library card - no trip needed. Bonus for parents with children under 18 in the home: Be one of the first ten to sign in and you’ll be entered into a family-fun random choice drawing!
Summer Break Spot: Free breakfast and lunch will be provided at the SWAG Family Resource Center to children 0 -18 years old, Monday- Thursday (June 8 – July 23), for excluded dates, please call to speak with a staff member at 352-505-6823 or find other locations and times here, www.summerbreakspot.org/find-location/. Breakfast will be served 9:00am – 9:30am and Lunch will be served 12pm – 12:30pm. Please note: Children must be present to receive meals.
Father's Day Celebration: Drop in and join us at SWAG Family Resource Center on Wednesday, June 17th 9am - 10am for our annual Mighty Men: Father's Day Celebration! Gifts and special treats will be provided to all fathers, while supplies last.
Juneteenth Celebration: Join us on Wednesday, June 17th 11am - 12pm for a Juneteenth Celebration hosted by our Strong Kids Summer Program youth and the Southwest Advocacy Group (SWAG)! This free community event is open to all families with fun crafts, food, music, and a very special surprise performance!
Parent Pathways Program: The Advocacy Table is offering a free four-session workshop on July 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th 5:30pm - 6:30pm here at SWAG Family Resource Center! The Parent Pathways Program is designed to support parents understand the IEP process, communicate with school teams, and advocate confidently for their child! Strong Kids Summer Program (Grades 1st - 5th): The Strong Kids Summer Program is dedicated to supporting 1st – 5th grade students through a variety of educational and enrichment activities. This program aims to provide safe and engaging learning opportunities over the summer break while also preventing summer loss. Parents must come into the resource center in person to sign their child up for this program. At this time, we only have a few spots remaining for session B (July 6th - July 23rd 9am - 2:30pm).
Teen Leadership & Civic Engagement Summer Program (Grades 6th - 12th): The Teen Leadership & Civic Engagement Summer Program (6th–12th) is a six-week initiative designed to support youth through a series of twelve interactive trainings, workshops, and certification opportunities. The program focuses on building leadership skills, fostering personal and academic growth, and preparing participants for long-term success, with weekly incentives for all enrolled youth. The program will run from June 8th through July 23rd, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This is a paid opportunity for all enrolled youth. Only one spot remains before the program reaches full capacity. On June 6th at 10:00 am, applications for the waitlist will be accepted in person at the SWAG Family Resource Center. Parents must be present to complete an application for their youth.
Community Dinner: Thursday, June 25th 5:30pm - 6:30pm. Families are invited to share a meal together, enjoy conversation, and connect with others in the community in a welcoming environment.
