At this year’s Community Night Out, your little ones can step into the role of EMS providers at the Teddy Bear Clinic ran by Gainesville Volunteer Fire Department where THEY get to take care of the patient (a cuddly teddy bear).

Kids will listen to heartbeats, apply bandages, and learn that emergency responders are friendly, helpful, and here to protect.

If a favorite stuffed animal has a “boo-boo,” feel free to bring them along for a check-up or repair!

It’s hands-on, heartwarming, and totally FREE.

Thank you Gary for your years of service to our community! Happy Retirement!

After over 30 years of service as Deputy Fire Coordinator for Wyoming County (WY-53) Gary Huff is stepping down from this position. Gary’s last day as Deputy Fire Coordinators will be this Friday July 10, 2026.

Gary has been an instrumental part of the fire service in and around Wyoming County. He has earned respect and is respected by many. Gary has been part of many developments over the year’s to better the fire service for all.

If you see Gary please thank him and welcome him into retirement from the Office of Emergency Services.

Volunteers are needed everywhere not just in Gainesville!
What does it mean to be a volunteer? It’s a person who steps up when a need arises. whether it’s a person needing to go to the hospital or a tree down in the road.
This picture was taken today in Hinsdale. Was this our member’s town? No.
Was this our county? Also, no. However, when someone is in need … no matter what, when or how … a volunteer chooses to help!
We had 2 members drop what they were doing to help the Hinsdale fire dept remove this tree from the road.
Not for the attention but because they enjoy helping people in need.

Would you stop or go around? If you would stop then consider stepping up volunteering today.

Thank you to the members that helped cut and remove this tree and to the four citizens that also stopped what they were doing to help.

This gentleman is talking about EMS in New Jersey but it’s exactly the same for us.

We are staffed by volunteers.

We have 4 EMT’s with flexible schedules that respond regularly.

We have 4 others that respond when they can but time constraints and family responsibilities limit their availability. But even that limited time makes a difference.

On the Fire side, we have fewer volunteers.

Training is FREE. The Wyoming County Office of Emergency Services hosts fire and EMS classes regularly.

We need your help to continue protecting this community.

Fall EMS Training Canvass: If you are interested in attending a CFR, EMT or AEMT original or refresher class this fall please complete the fall training canvass. This will help us determine the need for each level. Classes would tentatively start in September.
