Remarks by Florida Chapter Brother Matthew Bravo, newly elected president of the University of Florida Student Government at the 100th Anniversary Centennial Celebration of the Florida Chapter Founding.
Good evening to my fellow brothers, alumni, and honored guests. It is a privilege to stand before you tonight as a proud member of Delta Chi. And as we celebrate 100 years of this fraternity’s legacy, I’m reminded of the brothers who came before us, who stepped up to serve others and make our university a better place. That is the spirit of Delta Chi. For a century now, Delta Chi men have been involved across this campus — in student government, in the classroom, in philanthropy, in athletics, in leadership roles you see and roles you don’t. We are not a fraternity that sits on the sidelines. We show up. We build. We serve. We compete. And we care.
You can see Delta Chi’s fingerprints all across campus — in organizations, in initiatives, in friendships that bridge differences. We have Student Body Presidents, Senators, Class Presidents, Cicerones, Preview Staffers, Student Org and IFC leaders. And as we are here today, I’m proud to say that out of all fraternities at UF, we currently have the most active members in Florida Blue Key, the most prestigious leadership honorary in the state. But what makes me proud is that our involvement isn’t merely about titles. It’s about responsibility. It’s about believing that if you’re part of a community, you ought to leave it stronger than you found it. Now, I want to speak personally for a moment. This past election cycle was long. It was demanding. It tested my energy and patience. But through every late night, every early morning and every conversation — I never walked alone. Delta Chi stood behind me. They checked in on me when the days ran long. They reminded me why I started. And perhaps most importantly, they reminded me of who I am. That kind of support cannot be measured in votes or headlines. It’s measured in character. It’s measured in quiet loyalty. It’s measured in men who believe in one another.
And I’ll tell you something else — that support didn’t begin with the campaign, and it won’t end with this office. It was built over shared meals, shared challenges, shared laughter, and shared responsibility. It was built in the everyday moments that define brotherhood.
To me, Delta Chi means belonging. It means walking into a room and knowing you are among men who will challenge you to be better — not louder, not flashier — but better. It means accountability. It means standards. It means striving for excellence not because someone is watching, but because that’s who we are. Delta Chi has been a true beacon of leadership on this campus for 100 years. Not perfect. Not without challenges. But steady. Committed. Present.
And as we look to the next century, I believe our charge is simple. We must continue to lead with integrity. We must continue to serve without expecting applause. We must continue to support one another — not just when it’s easy, not just when it’s convenient, but especially when it’s difficult. Because leadership — whether in student government, in business, in law, in medicine, or in family life — is not about position. It’s about character. And character is forged in places like this. I stand here tonight deeply grateful. Grateful for the men who came before us and built something strong enough to last a century. Grateful for the brothers who stood beside me when it mattered most. And grateful for the opportunity to represent not only the student body, but the values that Delta Chi instilled in me.
One hundred years is no small thing. It represents generations of men choosing brotherhood, choosing service, choosing to invest in something bigger than themselves. May we honor that legacy not just with celebration tonight, but with commitment tomorrow. May we continue to be the men who lead with humility, act with courage, and serve with conviction. And may Delta Chi’s next one hundred years shine even brighter than its first. Thank you, God bless you all and God bless Delta Chi.
