Did you know that Tropical Milkweed (Asclepias curassavica) is now considered a category II invasive plant? Tropical milkweed can host the Ophryocystis elektroscirrha (OE) parasite, which infects monarch butterflies. Infected monarchs may have deformed wings, a shortened lifespan, and struggle to emerge from their chrysalis

Check out the great work being done at Riddling Grove in Melrose, FL! The The Grove Shack & Noah’s purpose - a local farm stand and food truck supports adults with disabilities through meaningful job opportunities.

"Our purpose has never been about hamburgers, fish baskets, or milkshakes. It’s about people. It’s about believing in someone until they believe in themselves. It’s about teaching skills that go far beyond the walls of our food truck. It’s about giving someone confidence, purpose, and the opportunity to say, “I can do this.”"

Hey y’all…

I just need to be real for a minute.

I want to brag on one of our boys. Devin is pretty new to us, but he has already become such a big part of our Grove Shack family. Today he texted me a video of himself frying chicken at home to cook dinner for his family. He was proud of what he had learned, and he wanted to share that moment with me.

If I’m being honest, these last couple of months have almost broken me. It seems like every time we turn around, something else happens. The food truck almost caught on fire because of an electrical issue. Then our refrigerator and freezer both burned up. We were in a car accident. One thing after another. It’s been exhausting emotionally, physically, and financially.

There have been days I’ve questioned everything. I’ve wondered if this dream is just too big. If maybe we’re supposed to stop. If everything we’re sacrificing is really making a difference.

Then my phone buzzed with that video.

It wasn’t just a video of someone cooking dinner. It was a reminder of why we started this journey in the first place.

Our purpose has never been about hamburgers, fish baskets, or milkshakes.

It’s about people.

It’s about believing in someone until they believe in themselves. It’s about teaching skills that go far beyond the walls of our food truck. It’s about giving someone confidence, purpose, and the opportunity to say, “I can do this.”

We’re not doing this to get rich. The truth is, we’re not. Most weeks we’re simply trying to make it to the next one, holding onto faith, hope, and a whole lot of prayer. But moments like today remind me that what we’re building is so much bigger than a business.

Sometimes I think I’m the one teaching them, but the truth is… they’re teaching me too. Devin reminded me today that even when I can’t always see it, this dream is changing lives—including mine.

So thank you. Thank you for every meal you buy, every post you share, every prayer you say, and every bit of support you give. You may think you’re just supporting a local food truck, but you’re helping create opportunities, build confidence, and change lives.

Thank you for letting me be raw and real for a minute.

We hope to see y’all this week. ❤️

Thank you Doug and Jackie for sharing the GROW HUB mission all the way to Emporia, Kansas!

🚴🏆💪 Doug Smith wears a one of a kind (for now!) custom made GROW HUB Jersey for the 2026 Unbound Gravel XL 350 Race. The jersey has a collage of staff photos, plants, donkeys, butterflies and the GROW HUB logo with text reading "Growing Real Opportunities for Work to Empower Adults with Disabilities."

Shared from Jackie Smith "I'm so proud of this man! He rides his bikes because he enjoys it, trains for fun, races for the personal challenge while never letting it come before his family, friends, work and other important things.

Doug is taking on the 2026 Unbound Gravel XL 350 Race in Emporia Kansas tomorrow. He'll be riding 350 miles unsupported, pushing through the night and battling the elements on this tough, muddy terrain out here. While he is out challenging his body and mind, he is also riding to support something much bigger.

He's raising awareness for our beloved Grow Hub in Gainesville Florida.
Grow Hub is an amazing organization that works to employ, empower and support adults with disabilities. If you’d like to cheer Doug on and support this wonderful non-proft, you can learn more and or donate here: https://www.thephilanthropyhub.org/organizations/growing-real-opportunities-to-work-harvest-of-urban-business-inc and please take a moment to watch the video on their website about this truly important hometown organization.

Thanks for your support!"
