For any of you who didn't see this e-mail:
Hello, Region 4!
Please pass this message on to the members of your local AMA-MSS chapters, to be used in discussion of candidates for AMA's Women Physician Section (WPS) Delegate.
DID YOU KNOW? Medical students and residents are eligible to vote in the upcoming elections for AMA's Women Physician's Section (WPS) Delegate! Registered women in the WPS with a valid e-mail in AMA's system will be sent an e-mail with an electronic ballot between April 3rd-15th. Men in the AMA can register to vote for the WPS election by signing-up HERE by April 1st. Contact Cynthia Norwood with questions about the election process!
I am proud to support the candidacy of Dr. Vijaya Appareddy, MD for Delegate to the Women Physician's Section. Her dedication to the advancement of women in medicine has been evident since the beginning of her career, and she has humbly and tirelessly advocated for improvements in women's health. Those who have met Dr. Appareddy know of her integral leadership within the AMA and the greater community. Her qualifications include:
Extensive Leadership Experience on the Local, Regional, and National level: She served as the Chair of the Board of Trustees for the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) and serves on the Board of Trustees of her local hospital in her hometown of Chattanooga, TN. She also received a presidential appointment and served as Vice Chair for the Presidential Commission for People with Intellectual Disabilities (PCPID), advocates for social justice through her service on the Commission to End Healthcare Disparities, and more.
A Longstanding History and Record of Service with the AMA: She has chaired the International Medical Graduates (IMG) Section and served as a delegate to the AMA House of Delegates for a number of years. She is also a delegate to the Tennessee Medical Association's House of Delegates, where she has advocated for Medicaid Expansion in Tennessee and is currently authoring legislation pushing for increased resources for safe detox for expectant mothers, and more.
Please contact myself or Dr. Appareddy with any questions. She is truly an outstanding role model for women in medicine and a strong advocate for the needs of patients and future physicians, especially those of us in the medical student section!
Best,
Shyama Appareddy
