It’s time to Give Like Dolly! 🦋

It is the first annual Give Like Dolly Day, a day created to honor Dolly Parton’s generous spirit and lifelong commitment to children and literacy. Here in Gainesville, Gainesville Thrives is proud to carry that mission forward through our local Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program and the work we do to support children and families in our community.

Through the Imagination Library, children from birth through age five can receive a free, age-appropriate book every month, helping families build home libraries and encouraging a lifelong love of reading.

September is National Literacy Month! 📚

Literacy plays an important role in a child’s education and helps build a strong foundation for lifelong learning. At Gainesville Thrives, we’re committed to making literacy a meaningful part of children’s lives through programs like our Literacy Nights, the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, and other community efforts that connect children and families with literacy resources and opportunities.

This month, we’re celebrating the importance of literacy and the families, volunteers, partners, and supporters who help make these opportunities possible. 🤍

Give Like Dolly Day is coming September 25!

Dolly Parton believed in giving back and helping children dream bigger, and this year, we’re celebrating that spirit right here in Gainesville through Give Like Dolly Day.

On September 25, The Dollywood Foundation is introducing Give Like Dolly Day, a new annual tradition created to honor Dolly’s generous heart and her lifelong commitment to children. For more than 30 years, Dolly’s dream has helped put books into the hands and hearts of children around the world. Through Gainesville Thrives and our local Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program, that dream continues right here in our community.

This (nine-to-five) Give Like Dolly Day, you can help us continue that legacy by giving back to local children and families. Behind every book is a community of donors, volunteers, partners, and supporters who believe in the power of books and reading.

If you’re able, consider donating $9.25 or $25 to Gainesville Thrives on September 25. Every gift helps us reach more children and continue providing the joy of books and reading to families in our community.

Another great Literacy Night in the books! We loved seeing so many families come out, connect, and enjoy the evening together. Our volunteers did an amazing job working one on one with children and helping make the night a success. We also had a little extra fun with a raffle and gave away two prizes!

A special visitor stopped by our table!

During the 2026 UF Campaign for Charities Kickoff Event, Alberta stopped by Gainesville Thrives’ table and picked out her favorite book: “Bear and Bird Explore the Seashore”!

We were so happy to share our mission and connect with the UF community 💛
