🎉 Our SOI cards are OFFICIALLY on their way to Tallahassee

Our goal was to collect 900 cards, and we collected EXACTLY 900!

Now we wait and prepare for PERC to declare that we have officially qualified for a recertification election.

We should take time to celebrate, but also recognize that our work is just beginning. As we wait for word from PERC, you can do a few things to get us ready to defend our contract:
➡️ Make sure your address is up to date in my.ufl.edu (under Menu -> My Account -> Directory Profile) so the recertification ballot goes to the right place when they spark an election (date TBD).
➡️ Sign up to make sure your department votes! We will provide you resources to make the turnout in your department a success. Sign up here: bit.ly/UFFUFVOTES

The truth is, if we rely on only those faculty who currently volunteer to door knock to turn out the vote and protect our union, we will lose this election. To win, we need at least one active leader in each department. If you do not know who that person is, then it might need to be you!

The 2026-2027 Article 24, PK Yonge Salary Adjustment Memorandum of Understanding ratification, and PK Yonge Special Memorandum of Understanding referendum meetings concluded Friday, September 9th, 2026 at Library West Colonnade at 1:00 PM and the PK Yonge Developmental Research School at 3:00 PM.

Combined ratification results: 163 members of the bargaining unit cast ballots. 163 voted “yes”, 0 voted “no, and there were 0 abstentions. The salary raises for 2026-27 tentatively agreed to by UFF-UF and UF-BoT are approved.

📣 806 SHOWING OF INTEREST CARDS — AND COUNTING!

UF faculty have collected an estimated 806 Showing of Interest (SOI) Cards, representing about 38% of the 2,100 faculty in our bargaining unit.

We need at least 30% (630 cards) by September 10 to qualify for a recertification election and protect our contract. Our goal is 40% (840 cards) so that we are well above the minimum and can move forward with a strong showing of faculty support.

We’re getting close to our goal — but we need to keep going!

A huge THANK YOU to all the faculty volunteers who have worked tirelessly to collect these cards and protect our rights at work. This progress is the result of faculty organizing together.

NEW FACULTY 📣

Have you heard that UF has a faculty union?

UFF-UF has been representing UF faculty since 1968, when faculty organized to defend their rights and working conditions. Today, our union represents more than 1,600 faculty and professionals across campus.

So what does the union actually do?

📄 We negotiate our contract. Our Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) is a legally binding contract that establishes our working conditions, including pay, leave, tenure and promotion, academic freedom, and much more.

✊ We defend our rights. When UF violates the contract, the union can file grievances and take action to enforce it.

💪 We build collective power. Instead of facing the university individually, faculty have a collective voice at the bargaining table.

Our working conditions are only as strong as our ability to organize and defend them. Union dues fund bargaining, legal support, grievance representation, organizing, and the resources we need to protect our contract.

When faculty join and pay dues, we strengthen our ability to stand together and win better working conditions for everyone.

🎉 5% RAISE FOR UF FACULTY!

We just won a 5.0% merit raise pool for higher education faculty at UF! ✊

This is a huge step forward after years of raises that failed to keep up with inflation and eroded our purchasing power.

And let’s be clear: this raise wasn’t a gift from the boss. It was won through years of organizing, collective action, and hard negotiations by the UFF-UF bargaining team and faculty who fought for better pay.

💪 Now we have a chance to build on this victory. If you aren’t already a dues-paying UFF-UF member, consider investing 1% of your raise in our union. The stronger our membership, the greater our leverage at the bargaining table.

📣 The agreement still needs to be ratified by faculty, so stay tuned for information about when and where to vote.

We fight. We win. We organize for more. ✊

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our discussion on the 1968 Florida teachers’ strike with historian Jody Baxter Noll and UFF-UF Co-President Michelle Nolan.

Less than 60 years ago, more than 25,000 educators participated in one of the largest statewide teachers’ strikes in U.S. history—even though public employee strikes were illegal in Florida at the time. Their courage and, most importantly, their unity made it possible to challenge the law and win lasting gains that transformed public-sector unionism in our state.

We must dedicate ourselves to learning the history of educators organizing in Florida. The rights workers have today were won through collective action, and the challenges educators face now didn’t appear overnight. Understanding this history reminds us that solidarity has always been our greatest strength.

A special thank you to historian Jody Baxter Noll for sharing his research, to UFF-UF Co-President Michelle Nolan for leading the conversation, and to The Lynx for hosting us. Here’s to continuing to learn from the past as we organize for the future.
