Happy spring! 🌷🌿Here is our calendar of events for April. This includes a calendar of TRC events (aka events we're hosting and or speaking at).

The 2nd calendar lists all of the city and county VOTING meetings. We will also post the WORKING session meetings separately, and explain what the differences are between the two (voting vs working sessions), and how people can get involved in the process.

The TRC chairman will be speaking at GCV's "Georgia Data Centers: What’s Being Built, Who Pays, and How Communities Can Respond" event. He will also be speaking at .sps general meeting. We're so excited to be able to speak more to others about our grassroots community efforts! This includes our efforts to oppose both data and detention centers. The movie screenings this month will be at private residences and we'll be posting that in our group communications.

We're excited to see ya'll at one of these events! (Hopefully at allll of them though🥳)

A few weeks ago Andy Rose (alongside Priscilla Alvarez) from CNN wrote the article, " How ICE plans for a detention warehouse pushed a Georgia town to fight back". This is that article.

Our local efforts are being seen on a national level- from CNN to the Canadian newspaper Globe and Mail. We are showing others what people power looks like! We are showing others that we won't allow a detention center to open up in Oakwood!

Today!

𝗠𝗘𝗘𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗡𝗢𝗧𝗜𝗖𝗘 | The next regular meeting of the Gainesville City Council is slated for 5:30 p.m. today (Tuesday), March 17, in the municipal courtroom at the Roy Franklin Hooper Jr. Public Safety Building, located at 701 Queen City Parkway.

These meetings are open and the public is welcome to attend.

Don't forget to show up to TOMORROW'S Gainesville City Council meeting at 5:30pm, Gainesville Public Safety Complex (behind Quicktrip).

Public comments are limited to 3 minutes. You can send messages to your city council members on the GVL City Gov website. Hall County BOC set a precedent- we need moratoriums on detention centers now!

We're screening Las Sandinistas at Moe's Thursday 19th.

For the statwide weekend of action against ICE jails in GA, don't forget:
-We have our concert fundraiser Saturday March 21st 6-9pm at Moe's Record Shop.
-Sunday March 22nd we're hosting a Revolutionary People's Power Assembly 3:30-5:30pm at Blackstrap Rock Hall.

And theeen for TDOV this year we're collabing with PFLAG and Equality Fest to celebrate and provide resources Saturday March 28th 3-6pm at Moe's!

We're super excited to see yall at these events 🫶🏽💖

Another win for the movement!

Oakwood City will pass a resolution on Monday demanding that DHS stay all action related to the proposed detention center in Oakwood!

CELEBRATE THIS WIN! But keep in mind that our work doesn't end here! We need to continue demanding that EVERY city in Hall County put moratoriums on detention centers!

Hoy nos colocamos frente a las tiendas mexicanas locales con información sobre "Conoce tus derechos", folletos sobre el movimiento estatal y panfletos sobre la demanda de una moratoria en todas las ciudades contra los centros de detención!

Today we tabled outside local mexican tiendas with Know Your Rights information, literature about the statewide movement, and zines about demanding a moratorium in every city against detention centers!
