What are the Big 3, and what does it mean when University of Florida contracts with these huge corporations? 😡😒 We boiled it down to just a few minutes but there is SO MUCH bs in the way Aramark, Compass Group, and Sodexo operate. UNR Uprooted & Rising did a great piece on how they use kickbacks to lock small farmers out of the food supply chain and consolidate the wealth of a few conglomerates like Tyson.

Welcome to University of Florida UF IFAS Solutions UF College of Agricultural and Life Sciences Food Week 2021 🤢🤬 Please read through these events. “SNAP challenge to experience poverty” & a “poverty simulator”???!!!🤬

Rather than trying to educate students by getting them to pretend they don't have enough money to buy food, how about UF and IFAS support living wages, rights, and protections for the many food workers on campus food service supply chain for the next 10 year contract. That would do way more to address food insecurity UF is complicit in keeping in place than a pretend play day.
This is out of touch, disgusting & embarrassing. Do better UF.

Let all the besties know: DO NOT BUY THE MEAL PLAN!! ❌❌❌
Not only are you investing in low quality food but purchasing a meal plan tells UF you are okay with their use of prison labor and exploitation. In 2018, students on average used ONLY 48% of the meal swipes they already paid for. && 35% of meal plan participants ate on campus less than 5 times. Don't feed corporate greed and oppression by buying unethical food you're not even going to eat. 🤢🤢
Until UF takes our demands for justice seriously we should not be buying meal plans!!!
Also HUGE thanks to our recent efforts during GNV Days, we passed over 400 flyers to incoming students and their parents letting them know what it really means to buy a meal plan.
Keep spreading the word. 🤝

UF Business Services wants to monitor their progress towards supply chain goals themselves-Don’t be the fox guarding the hen house, stop avoiding real accountability! Adopt credible, 3rd party monitoring.

If 3rd party evaluation is good enough for accreditation of dozens of UF departments by 3rd party professional societies it is good enough for UF’s food service.



43 colleges & universities, including 4 statewide university systems committed to . 7 of the top 10 public universities have committed to . If they can do it, University of Florida can do it.

UF Business Services, we are not fooled by Gator Dining claims that buying from the largest vegetable growing operation in the state of Florida as part of your buy local campaign is supporting local family farmers. Small and mid sized farmers and food businesses are strangled out of the market by exactly this type of misleading and false claim of supporting local economies.

Small & midsize farmer & local food business experiences MUST inform your local purchasing priorities. Why not incorporate their experiences & input into your "stakeholder" process for setting food contract priorities if you really want to supporting them?
