Adventures In Missions (Adventures) is an interdenominational missions organization that focuses on discipleship. We emphasize prayer and relationships in our work among the poor. Since Adventures was established in 1989, we have taken 80,000 people to the mission field, some for a year or longer. Through our 14 bases around the world, we have year-round ministry to places where “the least of thes

e” are found. We believe that by giving people the opportunity to hold orphans, bring hope to the hopeless, and pray for the sick, lives are transformed. We seek to disciple as Jesus did – our vision is that God would use us to raise up a generation of radically committed disciples of Jesus Christ!

🇰🇭 MONDAY BASE HIGHLIGHT: CAMBODIA

Nutrition Week never gets old.
The kids show up with a bowl and spoon in hand, and something from home to add to the pot. A handful of rice, a few vegetables, whatever they have. Together, it becomes enough. And somehow, there's always enough left over for them to carry bowls of porridge home to parents and grandparents.

Our team says it's one of the best relationship-building tools they have in the villages. Food brings people together in a way nothing else quite can.

This week also brought some extra joy: Steven taught the kids volleyball (a huge hit, lots of laughter), and the weather was unusually kind, which made cooking and teaching that much sweeter. We're grateful for every small blessing that makes the work lighter.

And a personal note from our base leaders: they're packing up and heading home to Cambodia on September 3rd, eager to be back with the team and back in the middle of what God has called them to.

🙏 Pray with us this week:
For our Cambodia staff, that God would sustain and encourage them with renewed energy and joy
For the children, teens, and adults in our programs, that they'd grow deeper in their faith with a hunger for God's Word
For safe travels and smooth preparations as our leaders return on September 3rd

It started with a simple visit. 🤍

Before the retreat even began, one of our Beauty for Ashes teams spent the day visiting families in the community. One door opened to a grandmother and her granddaughter.

They sat together. They listened. They prayed. Before leaving, they anointed each person with oil, asking God to meet them right where they were. Nothing flashy, just a quiet reminder: you are seen, you are known, you are deeply loved.

Later that day, that same grandmother and granddaughter walked through the doors of the retreat. And as they worshipped and shared with the other women, something began to change.

Sometimes ministry doesn't start with a microphone or a lesson. Sometimes it starts with knocking on a door and sitting at someone's table.

That's the heart of Beauty for Ashes in Guatemala, walking alongside women and families, reminding them God hasn't forgotten them. In a place marked by poverty and brokenness, the hope of Jesus is changing lives one relationship at a time.

This September, be part of that story. High school grad or grandmother, first-timer or seasoned servant — there's a seat at this table for you.

When we picture mission trips, it's easy to imagine we're bringing God somewhere He hasn't been. But the truth is, He's always there first.

A team serving in New York City learned this in a simple, unforgettable way. One afternoon they met a woman in a park who was carrying a heavy burden and asked if they could pray with her. It was a brief interaction, but afterward one participant couldn't stop thinking about it. "I realized God had prepared that moment long before we arrived," they reflected. "He simply invited me to be part of what He was already doing."

Every conversation, every prayer, every song of worship at Brooklyn Tabernacle, none of it was something the team orchestrated. They were simply joining the work of a God who had been pursuing people long before the trip began.

That's one of the greatest gifts of serving together. We don't travel to bring God somewhere new. We go to learn where He's already moving, partner with ministries that serve year-round, and often return home with new eyes to see Him at work in our own neighborhoods.

Where might God already be at work, and how is He inviting your group to join Him?

You don't have to feel ready to say yes to missions. 🙌

The girl in this story wasn't. She was nervous the whole way to Chicago, wondering if she'd freeze when someone asked about her faith. Then she watched a teammate stop and pray with a stranger, and something clicked: "I could do that."

By midweek, she was.

That's how it works. Boldness isn't a personality type. It's built one small yes at a time, usually while watching someone else go first.

If you've been sitting on "maybe next year," this is your invitation. We have trips open right now, and you don't have to have it all figured out to come.

Your story matters more than you know! She almost didn't share it. Standing at the front of the room, one of our Beauty for Ashes team members told a story she'd carried for years — old wounds, shame, the quiet lie that she'd never measure up. Then she shared how God had been rewriting it, trading shame for truth.

When she finished, the room went quiet. Then a teenage girl spoke up, tears in her eyes: "I think that testimony was for me." For the first time, she shared her own struggle — and someone else's courage gave her permission to find her own.

That's the beautiful thing about Beauty for Ashes: healing is contagious. When one woman is honest, another discovers she isn't alone.

This October, we'll partner with local ministries across Northeast Georgia serving immigrant women, survivors, and women in recovery — making space for stories to be shared, burdens laid down, and hope to be found in Jesus.

You don't need a polished testimony — just a willingness to let God use the story He's already writing in you. High school grad or grandmother, first-timer or seasoned servant — there's a seat at this table for you.

3,500 volunteers. Hundreds of families. Two winters. One community.

Two years ago Helene tore through Western North Carolina. What started as an emergency response turned into something none of us planned.

Homeowners became friends. Churches, neighbors, and partners showed up alongside us. Job sites turned into places where people prayed together.

Meeting a seen need opens the door to an unseen need. We got to watch that happen over and over, usually because someone else made room for us first.

Our part of the response is wrapping up, and Western North Carolina is still being cared for by people who live there. So we’re gathering to say thank you.

Saturday, September 26 · 6 PM · Better Together Base, Black Mountain. Testimony, worship, ice cream, gratitude.

If you served, prayed, gave, partnered, or opened your door to us: you’re part of this story.

By the end of the week, the basketball court had become far more than a place to play.

By day, a student team from Scottsdale Christian Academy served across Puerto Rico, praying with people in plazas, shopping malls, and along the beach, learning to push past fear and trust God with conversations that felt intimidating. Even through language barriers, they found that a willing heart, a translator, and the love of Christ could build real connection.

But one evening, after the day's ministry had ended, that same court became something else entirely. One by one, students began sharing the struggles they'd been carrying. They cried together, prayed for one another, and spoke honestly about doubts they had kept hidden. A mission trip was becoming a community where people felt safe enough to be truly known.

Mission trips create space for something many of us struggle to find in everyday life: authentic Christian community. When students worship, serve, and choose vulnerability together, faith deepens in ways that last long after the flight home.

Following Jesus was never meant to be walked alone. Give your group a week to discover that together.

Strangers become sisters. 🤍

At a Beauty for Ashes retreat, women who'd never normally cross paths end up around the same table, different ages, cultures, and chapters of life. And little by little, the walls come down.

One of our team members, Debbie, put it this way: "It doesn't matter your culture, your language, or the color of your skin. We've been through many of the same things — and when we focus on Him, we experience healing."

That's the heart of what God is doing in Manchester, New Hampshire: a city full of refugees, New Americans, and women facing poverty, addiction, and homelessness. Every story is different, but every woman longs to be seen, to belong, and to know she's deeply loved by God.

This October, pull up a chair. You don't need a title or a past that's all figured out. High school grad or grandmother, first-timer or seasoned servant, there's a seat at this table for you.

When Stephen finally answered the phone, he couldn't believe we were still here.

A car accident had left him disabled, yet he was the one caring for his elderly mother when the flood took their home. His mom moved away. The friend who was going to help him rebuild passed away suddenly. And Stephen was left to face it alone.

He'd told us no at first, pride, grief, a plan of his own. So we waited. Months later a missionary called back through our list, and when Stephen realized our offer hadn't expired, relief washed over him.

That's the work nobody sees: the long stretch after the cameras leave. We stay because relationship outlasts the task. Today volunteers are hanging his cabinets and rebuilding his bathroom, and Stephen is learning that being cared for is nothing to be ashamed of.

"Carry each other's burdens." — Galatians 6:2

🙏 Pray that we finish strong.
