This past month, Carl J. Berkovitz, a beloved friend and supporter of Aegis Institute as well as a dedicated father, husband, and brother, passed away on December 2nd. Carl was many things: a veteran who served his country in the Air Force, a loving father, a husband, a jazz musician, and a lawyer: truly an advocate for the underdog. Carl practiced law for over 40 years in California. He developed and implemented workshops to improve the skills of other trial attorneys. Carl was exemplary in his desire to obtain justice for his clients. In recent years, Carl had applied himself to improving his keyboard skills, teaching himself to read music, and developing a regular practice regime. He became a devoted dog owner and seriously considered a career change into standup comedy.
Of all the things that can be said about Carl, perhaps the most important is that, ultimately, Carl was kind. In honor of Carl's memory and support of Aegis Institute, our school establishes the Berkovitz Fund, a scholarship in his name. If you knew Carl or generally believe in the cause of our school and supporting the education of kids on scholarship, the family and friends of Carl ask you to donate to this fund.
