Our deepest condolences and gratitude to the friends and family of John Ed Willmore, who honored his memory with donations to the Friends of Jackson County Animal Shelter. Mr. Willmore’s love for his animals, his community and his church was known to all. He is sorely missed.

John Edward Willmore was born on September 7, 1939 in Gainesboro, TN and passed away at Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN on Friday, September 11, 2026 at the age of 87.

John was the son of Robert Edward Willmore and Dymple Draper VanHooser Willmore. He was a member of Gainesboro First United Methodist Church. He was in management in the aircraft industry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, special cousins, Jean VanHooser Locke, John William VanHooser and Jane Butler along with special friend, Ann Hughes.

Survived by his spouse Faye Willmore of Gainesboro; sons Tommy Edward (Kathy) Willmore of Nashville TN and David (Shelia) Willmore of Smithville TN; grandchildren Katie (Chad) Sullivan of Nashville TN, Austin Troy (Tiffany) Willmore of Smithville TN and Sarah (Matt) Willmore-Romeo of Austin TX, Holly (Jeff) Petty of Kingston Springs, TN, Seth (Alex) Street of Kingston Springs; 8 great grandchildren; special friend, Anna Glover (Scott) Hudson of TX along with his pets, Missy and Lady. Other relatives and friends also survive.

We need some help. I have been stressing a lot lately over the state of rescue and the general state of the US because the two things are closely related. Weirdly, I got a call from PayPal to ask me if there was anything we needed from them, as our donations are much lower than normal. When the company that processes your donations calls to ask where they are, things are not going especially well.

We have a dog named Shimi who needs surgery to repair a blown knee next week. I am about to do something that is probably financially inadvisable and go rescue a bunch of dogs someone dumped in the woods, including a lot of puppies. We owe $12,000 for emergency cases already treated. And the donations we depend on to pay for all of this have slowed to a frightening degree.

I know why. Everything costs more. Groceries, fuel, just being alive on a Tuesday. The money people used to have left over to help a dog is now going toward getting through their own week. We understand that because we are living it, too.

We are asking for help again. Honestly, I am tired and discouraged, and I wish I had something more entertaining to offer you today. But Shimi needs care, the emergency bills are real, and being discouraged does not pay them.

Our immediate goal is $12,000 to clear the emergency bills, with Shimi’s surgery still ahead of us. If 600 people can give $20, those emergency bills are covered. If you have $5 to spare, please do not think it is too little to matter. Small donations are how we have kept doing this for years. If donating is out of reach, please share this post. You do not owe us an apology for having bills of your own.

There are a lot of good people here. Today, we need you. For Shimi, for the dogs whose emergencies brought us to this point, for the dogs dumped out there and for the next dog who is going to need us.

Please help if you can. Support your favorite rescues and nonprofits as best you can. We are being asked to do the government’s job on a shoestring budget, and the billionaires are not even offering us cake.

The Friends of Jackson County Animal Shelter (FJCAS) is holding its Annual Fall Yard Sale on Saturday, September 19, starting 8am at the Old Dairy Shack located at 544 N Grundy Quarles Hwy, Gainesboro, TN.

We put out the call requesting donations and WOW! Did our community respond!

We are overwhelmed with donations and so much great stuff! This is going to be a wonderful Yard Sale and you will not want to miss it!

We have received so much, the building is packed to the gills and there’s no room for more! So we are closing down our donation period as of today to give us a chance to sort and organize everything and get ready for the sale on September 19!

Our huge, unstoppable, heartfelt thanks to everyone who brought donations, large and small! FJCAS is staffed by unpaid volunteers only and ALL proceeds go toward our community pet food distribution, pet fostering program, and saving for the shelter build. We love our community and are so grateful for your love and care toward animals.

HAPPY TAILS! A Second Chance for Ringo!

Ringo is a lovely guy whose life took a sad and unexpected turn a few months ago when his beloved owner passed away. The Sheriff’s Dept. called FJCAS and we were glad to be able to help this sweet dog and foster him.

Today, Ringo found his second chance: He was adopted and is on his way to a new home with a wonderful new family, complete with a doggie sister to play with! They are naming him Chance - a fresh start for him in every way!

THANK YOU TO ALL FJCAS DONORS, SUPPORTERS AND FOSTERS. This Happy Tail is your donations at work. Because of you, Ringo is healthy, happy, neutered, fully vaccinated and starting his new life on a good paw!

Meet **Bobby**, a sweet senior Chihuahua who has spent his entire life as a cherished indoor companion. He belonged to an elderly couple in Missouri, but after the wife passed away, their family had to relocate Bobby’s owner to Tennessee for care and support.

Bobby’s person loves him deeply, but due to age, mobility concerns, and he can no longer give Bobby the daily care he deserves — and the family is unable to keep him indoors due to allergies. Bobby is currently staying safely in the garage, and his owner walks him, but this arrangement won’t be sustainable as winter approaches.
