Gadsden Amateur Radio Club We meet at 7pm on the 2nd Monday of the month at the First United Methodist Church in Attalla, AL. We encourage anyone interested in this hobby to join us.

🍂🤠 MORNIN’ Y’ALL AND HAPPY FREAKIN’ FRIDAY!! 🎉☕️

Here is your East Central Alabama weather for 10/16/26!! 🌤️🍁

FALL IS FINALLY FIXIN’ TO MAKE HER GRAND ENTRANCE!! 💃🏻🍂 And honey, after all that 90-degree nonsense in the MIDDLE OF OCTOBER, we are READY to roll out the red carpet! 😂🔥

☀️ TODAY: We’ll start the day with sunny skies and highs in the low 80s. BUT HOLD ONTO YOUR SWEET TEA, Y’ALL, BECAUSE HERE COMES THE CHANGE! 🥤👀

A cold front will move through this afternoon, bringing increasing clouds, a chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm or two, and winds of 10–20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. Temperatures will drop into the mid-70s as that front rolls on through!

Mother Nature said, “Y’all wanted Fall? WELL, HERE SHE COMES!” 😂🍁

🌬️ TONIGHT: Now, THIS is what I’m talkin’ about!! Temperatures will tumble into the UPPER 40s!! 🙌🏻🥶 We’ll have mostly cloudy skies with winds of 10–20 mph and gusts up to 35 mph.

Y’ALL, GO FIND THOSE HOODIES, PULL OUT THEM FUZZY SOCKS, AND GET READY TO SLEEP WITH THE WINDOWS OPEN IF THE WIND ALLOWS IT! 😂🍂 This Southern girl might just shed a tear of pure happiness!

At around 12:29 on Thursday 8 October, a school on the far north coast of Scotland gets a call from the space station. 🛰️

Pupils at Wick High School in Caithness will question CSA astronaut Joshua Kutryk (KJ5BFU) aboard the International Space Station. The station's callsign is NA1SS; the school's is GB4WHS. It's likely to be one of the most northerly direct school links with the ISS ever attempted, says the local paper.

Note the change: the contact has moved from the original Tuesday slot to Thursday 8 October, 12:29 BST (11:29 GMT).

You can listen in: the ISS downlink is 145.800 MHz FM (allow ±3 kHz for Doppler), receivable on an ordinary 2m set while the ISS is in range. No licence is needed to listen. No radio? The contact streams live at live.ariss.org, and the teams will try to send live TV pictures from orbit on the HamTV downlink.

The club was founded in 2023 by teacher Chris Aitken (MM0WIC); fifteen pupils had passed their amateur radio licence exams by January. Come Thursday 8 October, they get the sky. 📡

The world’s largest digital and on-the-air Scouting event, Jamboree on the Air (JOTA), takes place October 16–18, 2026!

Every year, millions of Scouts take to the airwaves to connect with fellow Scouts across the country and around the globe using amateur radio. It’s an incredible hands-on way to learn about science, technology, and global communication—and most importantly, it’s a lot of fun!

☀️ TODAY: More sunshine, more warmth, and MORE SUMMER NONSENSE! We’ll have sunny skies, light winds, and temperatures flirting with NEAR-RECORD HIGHS AROUND 90 DEGREES! 😳

NINETY. DEGREES. IN OCTOBER.

Ma’am, the pumpkins are sweating, the mums are confused, and this redheaded Southern girl is about ready to file a formal complaint! 🎃😂 Somebody tell Summer her shift is OVER and she needs to clock OUT! 🚪☀️
