Alabama 4-H recently selected a new group of 30 young leaders from 22 counties to serve as the 2026-2027 4-H State Ambassadors.

The ambassadors serve as representatives of Alabama 4-H, promoting its programs on the regional, state and national levels. They help plan state-level events, such as the Midwinter Teen Retreat and 4-H’s statewide community service project.

“Through this experience, ambassadors learn how to work as a team, manage their time, communicate effectively and take on real leadership responsibilities,” said Alabama Cooperative Extension System Specialist Joy Scott, one of the advisors of the Alabama 4-H State Ambassadors. “These are skills that extend far beyond 4-H and can be applied in school, future careers and everyday life.”

The ambassadors also assist with 4-H youth councils within their regions. They spend the year immersed in opportunities to gain leadership and organizational skills, as well as meaningful friendships.

Growing Beyond Earth with Etowah County 4-H!

Sixth-graders at Hokes Bluff Middle School are bringing agriculture to the stars, making them the first school in Etowah County to host hydroponic growth chambers for the Growing Beyond Earth project!

Through this exciting partnership between NASA and Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, students are conducting real scientific research to help NASA determine which plants could provide food for astronauts on future space missions.

Today they measured their germinated seedlings and logged the data. These young scientists aren't just learning about science; they're contributing to it!

🍀 How It Started… How It’s Going! 🍀

Many of you know that I got my start in 4-H as a 4th grader at Glencoe Elementary School. It was so special to lead 4-H Clubs at GES on the last day of National 4-H Week.

There’s something meaningful about coming full circle. My 4-H experiences helped prepare me for the future. Now I get to pay it forward by helping young people try new things, develop leadership skills, and find their spark.

Many things have changed between 1986 and 2026, but the impact of 4-H is still going strong.
