Children's Hospital Intervention and Prevention Services (CHIPS Center) promotes hope and healing for those affected by child abuse and neglect. Children's of Alabama is one of the 10 busiest pediatric hospitals in the United States with more than 685,000 outpatient and over 15,000 inpatient visits in 2021. The staff is a team of specialty-trained clinical counselors, doctors, social workers, and nurses who work with law enforcement, the Department of Human Resources (DHR), and Child Advocacy Center (CAC) representatives to provide the best possible care for children and families traumatized by physical and/or s*xual abuse. CHIPS provided services to 42 of the 67 counties in Alabama and had a 10% increase in requests for counseling services in 2021. CHIPS also initiated a new special clinic called Sunrise Clinic for rescued/victims of child s*x trafficking. Sexual abuse prevention education materials, developed by CHIPS, are distributed at child development centers and places of worship around the state.
