Encampment/Festival, and Historical organization celebrating Death Valley's history

The purpose of the Death Valley ‘49ers Non-Profit Organization is to Promote Understanding and Appreciation of Death Valley and It History. The Death Valley ‘49ers are an all-volunteer non-profit organization that seeks to expand public awareness of Death Valley as a highly valued national resource and recreational area protected and preserved by the National Park Service and others for the use and enjoyment of present generations. Special recognition is given to the California- bound pioneer wagon parties of 1849-50 whose indomitable will to survive and persevere through the ordeal of that winter serves as an enduring example of the hardy spirit of all Americans who traveled far searching for new and better lives. The Death Valley ‘49ers sponsor the Annual Encampment each November (around Veteran’s Day weekend) to celebrate this pioneer spirit and this special place called Death Valley.

🤠🎉 PARTY LIKE IT’S 1949! 🎉🤠

Throwing it back to where it all began! 📸 These photos capture the spirit of the original Death Valley ’49ers Encampment in 1949, when thousands gathered in Death Valley to celebrate California’s pioneer history and the incredible story of the original Forty-Niners.

Nearly 80 years later, that same spirit of history, adventure, and community lives on! ❤️🏜️

Now it’s YOUR turn to be part of the tradition! Join us for four days of history, entertainment, exploration, and good old-fashioned Encampment fun in the heart of Death Valley.

A great project

For more than 15 years, botanist Naomi Fraga has been trying to collect seeds from the rare Death Valley sage, for safekeeping in a vault of native California seeds.
