TOPP Foundation

TOPP Foundation TOPP supports families, increases awareness, provides scholarships & raises funds for T1D research. In 2022, TOPP created the Higher Education Scholarship.

The nonprofit TOPP Foundation (Type One Parent Project) was started in 2016 by three founders who each have a child diagnosed with type one diabetes (T1D). They joined together to support T1D families, increase awareness, and raise funds for cure research. Since 2016, the TOPP Foundation has donated a total of $160,500 directly to T1D cure research and has hosted many social events to connect T1D

families. In 2018, the TOPP Foundation Camp Scholarship Program was established to help families by providing financial assistance for specialized diabetes summer camps. Between 2018-2023, this program has awarded twenty-one camp scholarships. This scholarship provides financial assistance to students planning to continue their education at a college, university, or trade school. Between 2022 and 2023, TOPP has awarded a total of seven scholarships to high school seniors. TOPP Foundation is funded 100% by donations and hopes to continue supporting our local T1D community for years to come.

We are thrilled to announce that TOPP has awarded 10 camp scholarships for Summer 2026 to local children and teens living with Type 1 Diabetes! We’re proud to support our T1D community and help make camp possible for these amazing kids.
With these awards, we have now provided 53 camp scholarships since 2018 — helping kids build confidence, independence, and lifelong friendships at T1D camps. Wishing these 10 incredible kids a summer full of adventure, confidence, and connection! 💙

We love Camp Freedom!

Our camps are more than summer camps—they’re places where children living with diabetes can truly thrive. Campers spend their days making friends, trying new adventures, and learning important diabetes management skills in an environment built just for them. Along the way, they gain confidence, independence, and a sense of community that can last a lifetime.

This is amazing and encouraging!

100% of participants achieved insulin independence.

In a recent clinical study evaluating Tegoprubart following pancreatic islet transplantation, all 12 participants with type 1 diabetes achieved insulin independence and maintained HbA1c levels below 6.5%, with no reported severe hypoglycemic events after transplant.

These encouraging results highlight the potential of Tegoprubart, a novel anti-CD40L antibody designed to help protect transplanted insulin-producing cells while reducing many of the challenges associated with traditional anti-rejection therapies.

This milestone is built upon decades of pioneering work at the Diabetes Research Institute. Dr. Camillo Ricordi's development of the Ricordi Chamber revolutionized the isolation of insulin-producing islet cells, making islet transplantation a viable therapeutic approach worldwide. Building on that foundation, Dr. Ricordi and Dr. Norma Kenyon helped lead groundbreaking preclinical research on anti-CD40L therapies, helping demonstrate their potential to protect transplanted islets and improve long-term outcomes.

Today's results reflect years of scientific innovation and collaboration, bringing us one step closer to a future where cell-based therapies can provide lasting freedom from insulin dependence for people living with type 1 diabetes.
