Mom is a larger short coated brindle mix, suspect dad was a Husky mix, maybe Lab - Scout will probably be 60-70lbs full grown.

All of us at Safe at Last mourn the passing of Lisa Caporizzo, beloved wife of Steve Caporizzo and devoted animal advocate. Throughout the years, Steve and Lisa have worked tirelessly to save so many animals in need, providing them safe haven and enabling these fur-kids (including from our rescue) to find their forever homes.

With Lisa’s passing, a bright light surely went out of this world; but, the love, comfort and caring that Lisa brought to so many will live on forever. That is how we will always remember her – for her many acts of kindness and selflessness that made this world a better place.

From our rescue family to you, Steve, our hearts, love and prayers are with you. Please know how much you mean to all of us. We hope and pray that loving memories of your beautiful Lisa and the support from those who love you will give you strength and help sustain you through this most difficult time.

An Update from Safe at Last 🐾

As we head into the New Year, we wanted to share an important update with our Safe at Last community.

Due to recent changes in NYS Ag & Markets regulations affecting foster-based rescues like Safe at Last as if they were shelters, we must shift how we operate. After much thought and consideration, we have made the difficult decision to step away from fostering animals, as meeting these new requirements is not feasible for our small all-volunteer organization (with no public funding or staff).

Safe at Last will remain a NYS-licensed 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and while our role is changing, our mission is not ending. We will continue to support animals in need by helping share adoption opportunities, sponsoring medical care, promoting spay/neuter efforts, and assisting families when possible.

This was not an easy decision. We are incredibly grateful to our volunteers, fosters, adopters, and supporters who have made our work possible over the years. Since 2009, together we have helped 𝟭,𝟬𝟱𝟵 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀 find loving homes.

🎶 Meet Lainey Wilson! 🎶 (video in comments!)

After a rough start, Lainey is thriving in foster care and learning just how good life can be 🤍 She may take a minute to warm up, but once she knows she’s safe, she’s all about the snuggles.

Lainey is a sweet, happy girl who loves her people, enjoys playing with other dogs, and does well with cats. She’s crate trained, almost fully potty trained, and would likely benefit from having a canine sibling.

🐾 ~6 months old (born June 2025)
🐾 Lab/Shepherd mix (best guess)
🐾 ~40 lbs, expected medium-sized
🐾 Spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, on preventatives

Hard to believe, but 𝗟𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗴𝗶𝗿𝗹 𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗟𝗟 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲! 🤍

She may take a minute to warm up, but once she knows you’re her person, it’s 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹-𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗻𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲. This sweet, gentle girl thrives with a confident dog friend and would do wonderfully in a home with another pup. 🐾

Lainey is 𝗰𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱, 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱, and gets along great with 𝗱𝗼𝗴𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝘀. She just needs someone willing to give her the little bit of patience she needs to blossom. 🌼
