As President of VFW Auxiliary Post 4976, it gives me great pleasure to present to local National Guard Veteran, James 'Bud' Lemmons, a check to pay his power bill this month.
It is the goal for our Auxiliary, for year 2024-2025, to help local veterans in need and their families!

National Women Veterans Recognition Day

Celebrated each year on June 12 in recognition of the anniversary of the 1948 Women's Armed Services Integration Act signing, 2024 is the 76th anniversary of that groundbreaking legislation for America's military women, granting women a permanent place and an opportunity for a career in the nation's military.

May 18 is Armed Forces Day, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) joins a grateful nation in paying tribute to the soldiers, Marines, sailors, airmen, guardians, and Coast Guardsmen who are defending freedom both here at home, and around the globe.

A staggering number of veterans die by su***de every day, and the VFW Auxiliary is committed to lowering this number and changing the stigma surrounding mental health in America.

Sharing information about this and the warning signs of su***de is National President Carla Martinez’s special focus this year. She is not looking to raise money, but asks for all members to help raise awareness.

We therefore encourage you to educate yourself and others and learn how you can help combat this critical issue.
• Visit veteranscrisisline.net and click on topics under "Education and Advice" for resources.
• Connect struggling veterans with a counselor at the Veterans Crisis Line - Dial 988, Press 1.
• Learn the Five Signs that may mean someone is in emotional pain and might need help: changedirection.org/ -signs
• Purchase the Auxiliary Su***de Awareness Prevention Pin from the VFW Store: vfwstore.org/products/32033. When someone asks you about your pin, tell them that the VFW Auxiliary is concerned about the rate of su***des among veterans and military service members; we want everyone to be aware of the unique stresses they face.

Even one death by su***de is one too many.

Youth play such an important role in our future. Encourage involvement from an early age in all Auxiliary Programs! Every young person can find their place to serve when they are presented with a variety of opportunities to serve their communities and veterans.

Teach youth about Auxiliary efforts to:
• Respect and take pride in our country.
• Serve hospitalized veterans.
• Elect leaders who appreciate our military.
• Pass legislation that secures benefits for our veterans.
• And many other worthy efforts!
