February flew by in a blink of an eye. At the general meeting, Lisa Guerre spoke to us about the history of Mardi Gras and where the term โFat Tuesdayโ really means. It is a Catholic holiday and the last day to eat anything you want before Ash Wednesday begins, the day after Fat Tuesday. She shared many interesting stories and fun facts about celebrating Mardi Gras in New Orleans. We each made our own mask, and some made extra for those that attended the evening event.
Later in the evening we gathered in the ballroom with our mask on to enjoy New Orleans style Gumbo, Spicey Meatballs and other smile bites. The signature cocktails for this event were Hurricaneโs and Bloody Maryโs. We wore our mask while learning the 2nd line dance and dancing around the ballroom with our umbrellas. A big shout out to Lisa Guerre, Francis Carr and Nadiya Volik for the fabulous decorations and all those that helped.
