Fullerton Ultimate is a pickup game that has been going on in North Orange County for over 32 years. It was originally a Hughes Aircraft game that became an aerospace game, that became a game for everyone from all over Southern California. The play is very competitive, but we welcome all skill levels, including beginners. We recommend that you get out and throw the disc around a bit before you try

to come and play for the first time. Currently, we have high-level tournament players and we have players over 60 that come out for fun and exercise. Being out of shape is a reason to come out, not a reason to stay away. We can always find someone for you to match up against. Kids, Dogs, and Good Fun

There are often kids and dogs that accompany players to the park, especially on holidays and Sunday's. It's a great atmosphere. There is usually beer on Friday's and Sunday's. Alcohol is not officially allowed in the park, so please be low key and respectful of local residents. We ask that you tie your dog up during play and keep them from barking. Please also pick up their little doo-doos. Except for rare exceptions, children are not encouraged to play. It is a competitive game it could be dangerous to the players and especially to the children. Game Times

Games are always at 12p, even when it's 105 outside. Many players come out for their lunch hour so we start pretty promptly. If you show up 40 minutes late, you'll probably miss 30 minutes of play. We play until around 1:05p-1:15p on Tuesday and Thursday and as long as people's legs hold out on Friday and Sunday (generally 1:30p-2:00p). Rain and Snow

We play, rain or shine. Ok, so it only snowed once for a few minutes, but we played then too. We try to rotate fields to keep the damage to a minimum and games tend to be a little lighter, but the game will be ON. Rules

Most people know the rules of Ultimate Frisbee because someone told them, not because they have ever read them. This does not, however, stop them from engaging in spirited debates about the most esoteric rule callings. Even those of us that have read them, don't always remember them correctly. It's all part of the fun. FU tries to follow the official UPA rules with a very few exceptions. Some of the exceptions are below.

1. If an uncontested foul is called in the end-zone, UPA rules calls for play to be returned to end-zone line and play restarted. At FU, the defending player has the option to award the point immediately. It usually happens when the foul is egregious and the defending player is a pretty nice person.

2. Actually, that's the only exception I can think of right now. I'll add others if they come up or are pointed out to me. The Play

We try to pick teams that are fair based on skill level and experience. The goal is to create matchups that make the game exciting and fun for everyone. Most of the time we keep track of score based on the delta between scores (e.g. the score is "Up 1" rather than the score is 2-3). If the score gets to "Up 5", the losing team is offered a player trade and the score is reset for a new game. We'll split into two games if we get 20 or more players (and sometimes with 18 players if folk are feeling frisky). The first 10 players to arrive on the field stay on the primary field and the last 10 to arrive play on the second (adjacent) field. The only exception is to balance uneven teams. On Friday and Sunday, if there is only one game, we play 7's (or less occasionally) with subs. It's sort of last-back, but we try to make sure that everyone take a turn or two as a sub. On Tuesday and Thursday, we'll play with 8's and subs if there aren't enough players for two games (e.g. 17 players).
