Dr. Fenning discusses the new paper she led published in the journal Pediatrics on the Autism Science Foundation podcast!

Do you have challenges helping your child brush their teeth? A new randomized clinical trial led by Rachel Fenning from The Center for Autism & Neurodevelopmental Disorders and Fenning & Baker Psychology, Kelly Bermingham and Eric Butter from Nationwide Children's Hospital shows that with lots of support and flexible procedures, parents can help keep their children's mouths clean. It's not easy and requires a team, but it's possible for families--including those who don't have a lot of resources.

This is an unthinkable tragedy. Parenting a child with ASD can be incredibly stressful, particularly at this time when neither support nor services are sufficiently accessible. If you or anyone you know is finding parenting stress to be unmanageable, please reach out for help. Co-Directors Fenning and Baker are currently reaching out to our local colleagues in hopes of developing a collaborative network to address this issue in our area. In the meantime, our direct emails are [email protected] and [email protected].

Patricia Ripley, the West Kendall mother who initially claimed her severely autistic 9-year-old son had been kidnapped, ultimately admitted she was to blame for the child’s death at a canal and said “he’s going to be in a better place,” police said.
