Director of Affinity Groups, National Collegiate Choral Organization (NCCO)

Start date: August 1, 2026
End date: December 31, 2028
This is an at-will, contracted position.
Thereafter, this is to be a 2-year-term with possibility of renewal, pending Executive Board annual review.
DESCRIPTION
NCCO invites applications for the Director of Affinity Groups.
In partnership with the Affinity Groups, the Director will solicit ideas for advocacy, support, and structural change, and serve as a liaison between the Mission and Vision in Governance (MVG) Committee and the Executive Board of NCCO. They will also be responsible for relevant communications regarding DEI, Affinity Groups, and Programming.
This is primarily a service position. NCCO provides a $3,000 honorarium per two-year term.
RESPONSIBILITIES
To the Affinity Groups:
• Promote existing Affinity Group programming (from the groups serving BBIA, Women, LGBTQIA+, graduate students, and Community College conductors) with the broader NCCO membership. Serve as liaison between the Affinity Groups, the MVG Committee and the Executive Board.
• Plan Affinity programming for the biennial conference.
• Appoint volunteer leaders of each Affinity Group to be responsible for communication and mentorship within each affinity Group.
In Meetings:
• Attend Executive Board meetings as available, for relevant portions of the meetings.
• Attend MVG meetings and collaborate with the Committee to:
1. Build strategies for cultivating and nominating prospective Executive Board and National Board members.
2. Develop, promote, and implement (with the MVG) an extended vision for the Affinity Groups program.
3. Create a process adding new Affinity Groups as interest arises and if capacity permits.
In Publications and communication:
• Write, or select a guest to write, a DEI column for every edition of The Choral Scholar and American Choral Review. Guest columnists may be graduate students or professionals but should not be a student or close colleague of the Director of Affinity Groups.
• Communicate events/opportunities for Affinity Groups, responsive to the expressed needs of each respective group. Organize a yearly event for affinity groups.
• Provide updates about Affinity Groups for the NCCO website, provide appropriate content for e-blast updates and social media promoting each Affinity Group’s programming.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree
• Experience in teaching choral music at a post-secondary institution
• Leadership experience in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion work, including facilitating
complex conversations with diverse groups of individuals around race, gender
and gender identity, s*xual orientation, and additional aspects of intersecting
identities
Preferred Qualifications:
• MM, DMA, PhD or equivalent experience
• Prior involvement with the National Collegiate Choral Organization
