Beyond the Stage

Beyond the Stage Beyond the Stage is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of children and adults through the arts.

Beyond the Stage Foundation, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of children and adults through the arts. The mission of the organization is to provide professional performance and artistic opportunities, quality education, personal growth and financial assistance to the community of artists in the Allegany and Garrett County areas. Overall, our goal is to

establish a professional artistic atmosphere for students to grow as artists, innovators, professionals - in arts and otherwise - and community members. The focus is to enhance, enrich and inspire students to be successful in performing arts, but to also give them the tools for success Beyond the Stage. As part of the Beyond the Stage Foundation, we have established the Peter B Forno Scholarship Fund. This scholarship was developed to assist students in Western Maryland and Southwestern Pennsylvania in pursuing educational opportunities in the arts.

Every student deserves the opportunity to discover what they’re capable of.
At Beyond the Stage, scholarships help make that possible by opening doors for students to take classes at Mountain City Creative Academy, participate in educational community performances, and, most importantly, experience opportunities like our JTF Team.

Each year, our JTF students produce a pre-professional junior musical before traveling to Atlanta for the Junior Theatre Festival, the largest musical theatre festival in America. They perform, learn from industry professionals, take workshops, connect with thousands of young artists, and experience a weekend that can change the way they see themselves and their future.

But for some students, the cost of this experience is a barrier.
Your sponsorship can help remove that barrier.

When you support Beyond the Stage, you’re not just supporting a program. You’re investing in a student’s opportunity to learn, grow, dream bigger, and experience something they may never have had the chance to experience otherwise.

Help us make sure every student has a chance to say yes to the opportunity of a lifetime. 💛

🎭 Not every kid wants to be on stage. And that’s okay.

For some students, their creativity shines under the spotlight. For others, it comes through building the world around it. Both are valuable. Both deserve a place.

Through our partnership with ETF and JumpStart Theatre, students get hands-on opportunities to explore tech while learning skills that go far beyond the theatre: teamwork, communication, creativity, problem-solving, and leadership.

Amazing educators like Ms. Shelby help make these opportunities possible, inspiring our youth to discover where they belong and what they’re capable of.

And because of our generous donors, we can continue fueling these opportunities and taking them to the next level.

Because theatre isn’t just about who you see on stage. It’s about the kids making the magic happen. ✨

What if the next step isn’t always another performance?

For young artists, figuring out what comes after the stage can feel exciting, overwhelming, and full of questions.

Pathways was created to help answer some of those questions.

Through mentorship, professional tools, regional performance opportunities, real-world experiences, and connections with people working in the arts, students and young adults get the chance to explore what’s possible and start building a path of their own.

Because we want young artists to leave the stage with more than memories. We want them to leave with confidence, connections, experience, and a sense of where they can go next.

The stage is just the beginning.
Pathways helps them take the next step. ✨

Why this show? Why Pathways?

Pathways is a Beyond the Stage initiative created to use the performing arts as a pathway to connection, growth, and community. We believe meaningful stories can open doors to conversations that matter and create spaces where people feel seen, heard, and valued.

Dear Evan Hansen speaks directly to that mission. It explores belonging, loneliness, connection, and the importance of being seen.

Our “You Will Be Found” campaign is about more than producing a show. It’s about bringing people together and creating an experience that can make a lasting impact in our community.

💛 You can help make this impact possible. Community donations and sponsorships help us create accessible, meaningful arts experiences and bring stories like this to our region. https://www.beyondthestage.org/donate

Come audition. Come support. Come be part of something that reminds our community: You Will Be Found.

What if the most important thing your child gains from the performing arts isn't what happens on stage?

The recital ends. The costumes come off. The applause fades. But the confidence they built, the mistakes they learned to work through, the courage it took to step outside their comfort zone, and the persistence they developed along the way don't disappear when the curtain closes.

Those are the lessons that follow them into the classroom, future careers, relationships, and everyday life.

We took a closer look at **why arts education matters and what children really carry with them beyond the stage.**

Because sometimes, the most important part of a performance isn't what the audience sees. ❤️

Before they can inspire a new generation of young performers, the educators leading these programs deserve a chance to be inspired, too. 💛

That’s what JumpStart Theatre Bootcamp is all about.

A day to step away from the day-to-day, reconnect with creativity, share ideas, build practical skills, and leave with a little more confidence for the year ahead.

Because bringing musical theatre into a school takes more than a script and a stage. It takes educators who feel supported, prepared, and excited about what’s possible.

And the impact doesn’t stop with them.

What they learn here goes back into their schools, into their classrooms, onto their stages, and ultimately to the students who get the chance to find their voice, build confidence, collaborate, create, and experience the power of the performing arts.

One day for educators can create an entire year of possibility for students.

That’s the ripple effect. ✨

Meet Sabrina Frost, our Community Coordinator. ❤️

Sabrina is no stranger to bringing people together. Well known throughout our community for her commitment to community service initiatives, Sabrina has spent years creating opportunities to connect, give back, and make a difference. She also brings her experience as a professional choreographer and instructor, giving her a unique perspective on both the power of the performing arts and the importance of community.

Through Beyond the Stage, Sabrina is helping us build meaningful relationships, create partnerships, and connect the arts with the broader community. Her work is about finding ways to collaborate, support one another, and create opportunities that make our community stronger.

We believe the performing arts can be a catalyst for connection and community betterment, and that impact becomes even greater when we work together. Sabrina helps make those connections happen, and we’re excited to see where they lead. ❤️

THE IMPACT OF THE ARTS 🎭
Theatre teaches kids how to step into someone else’s shoes. How to listen. How to communicate. How to work together. How to take a risk, make a mistake, try again, and find the courage to use their voice.

And those lessons don’t disappear when the curtain closes.

The arts give young people opportunities to build confidence, empathy, creativity, connection, and a sense of belonging. They help kids discover not only what they can do, but who they can become.

That’s the impact of the arts. It’s not just about creating performers. It’s about creating possibilities for young people to grow, connect, and carry what they learn into every part of their lives.

Because what happens beyond the stage matters just as much as what happens on it. ❤️

08/15/2026

There’s a reason so many former theatre kids grow up to be the people you want on your team, in your community, and in your corner. Theatre has a way of shaping you long after you leave the stage.

For so many young people, theatre is where they first find their voice. It’s where they learn to walk into a room and be seen, to trust themselves, to work alongside people who are different from them, to handle rejection, to keep going when something doesn’t go as planned, and to celebrate someone else’s success just as much as their own. It can be the place where a child who feels like they don’t quite fit anywhere else finally finds their people.

That kind of experience shouldn’t be something only a few children have access to. Accessible performing arts programming gives young people the opportunity to build confidence, creativity, connection, and a sense of belonging, while developing skills that will follow them into every part of their lives.

Because when we invest in theatre, we aren’t only investing in the next generation of performers. We’re investing in the future teachers, leaders, artists, business owners, parents, volunteers, and community members who will shape the world around them.

That’s why Beyond the Stage exists. We believe every young person should have the opportunity to experience the transformative power of the performing arts, and we believe that when we give more kids that opportunity, the impact reaches far beyond the stage. 🎭

Preparing for a new season means preparing with purpose. 💛

Our team came together this week to align around our mission, vision, and goals, strengthen our connection as a team, and complete CPR training.

When we invest in our people, we strengthen our ability to serve our artists, families, and community.

Here’s to a season of creativity, connection, and community. ✨
