Courageous Carson

Courageous Carson My sweet 7 year old, Carson, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on 10/30/2023

08/31/2026

I can’t believe I’m even posting this, but we need prayers now more than ever. The doctor said it could be some type of infection, but that it could also be a leukemia relapse starting in the skin. He will have a biopsy done this week, then we will have to wait 4-5 days after that to confirm. My sweet boy… I’m so scared. I am actually numb, yet I feel like there is a 50lb weight on my chest. Please pray that it could be some type of infection or still clinging to the hope of something benign. Please Lord, please don’t make him go through all of that again. Please pray for Carson. My heart hurts so bad. 🙏🎗️💔

UPDATE- We will not have results of the MRI until tomorrow or Tuesday 😭. My heart literally aches 💔. I have prayed constantly for benign results. I truly hope that I can update Tomorrow with great news. Please continue to pray for Carson. 🙏🎗️🧡

Prayer warriors… we need you now. They just took him back for the MRI. He is being so brave. Please, please Lord, please let his results come back normal and prove that this mass is benign. In your name we pray, amen. 🙏🎗️🥺🙏

We truly appreciate all of your kind words! Unfortunately, we didn’t get any clear answers from the X-ray or Ultrasound, besides that it could be a variety of things (possibly vascular malformation, lipoma, or another kind of lesion.) The doctor wants him to have an MRI in the next week or two to rule out cancer 😭. So, please continue to pray for Carson. He had a rough morning and is scared. He’s been through too much already; I hate this for him. We have faith that it’s something benign, but we have to wait for the MRI results. 🙏🎗️🧡

🎗️We did get some positive news today though, his bloodwork came back great!🎗️

If you could send prayers to Carson for ONLY great news at his appt at the hospital in the morning 🙏. He will have his monthly labs drawn and hopefully we will get some positive news about the lump on his head. I’m really, really trying to stay calm and have faith that it is something common and benign 🥺🎗️🙏. I will update more tomorrow.

Life lately… last Friday Carson found a hard lump on the top of his head and he knew it wasn’t normal. Of course, as soon as I felt it, I panicked instantly; fearing the worst. I messaged his oncologist and she said that right now she isn’t concerned, but to keep an eye on any changes. He goes back up to the hospital Monday the 24th, but they may want to see him sooner if the lump changes (gets bigger, painful, etc…). As of now, the lump has stayed the same. So, for now, I will just pray that it is a simple cyst. Unfortunately, people think that since the chemo is done, his blood counts are starting to normalize, and that his port is out, that our lives have gone back to normal; but that is very, very wrong. We have a new normal; and though we only go up to the hospital once a month, those other 29 days in-between, we constantly worry and are always in fight-or-flight mode. As for Carson, the meds may be finished and his hair has grown back; thick and beautiful, but the side effects? Sometimes he struggles with his emotions and he fears the cancer will come back. He openly talks about death because he has met friends at the hospital who have died from cancer. He isn’t “back to his normal self” because I don’t think he ever will; he’s a totally different kid. He appreciates life, he loves hard, he expresses how he feels, and is very sentimental. At such a young age, he knows how fragile life is. I just want to raise awareness to the fact that cancer changes lives forever; things don’t ever go back to “normal.” Our life is far from “back to normal,” but I will 100% appreciate all of the blessings that each day brings. 🧡🎗️🥹
Please, please send prayers to Carson… that the lump on his head is just a cyst or something normal. 🙏🙏🙏

Sorry, slightly long post ahead….
This morning Carson had his 6 month post-chemo appointment. Though our visits look a lot different these days, my anxiety hasn’t changed; it may actually be worse than before. Carson was a total champ while they were taking blood and had zero reaction 🥺 (though he’s still getting used to them using his veins instead of his port). His labs looked great and his bone marrow is doing its job 🙌. Today, they took some extra blood to test his antibodies created from vaccines when he was little; I never really thought about it, but chemotherapy destroys all of the cells in your bone marrow (good and bad cells).. so it may have destroyed all of the antibodies that his body ever created to different illnesses. I’m praying he has some antibodies left and doesn’t need to get those vaccines all over again 😫. I’m telling you guys, the Mom that I am today is not the same Mom that I was prior to October 30th, 2023… she is somewhere back in room 929 at the hospital. After I heard the doctor say “Carson has B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia,” I’m pretty sure my soul left my body 💔. But, honestly, I am 100% a different Mom/person- I am incredibly overprotective, I am always over-prepared, and I overanalyze every tiny symptom that either of my boys present (bruises, lack of appetite, overly tired, bone pain, etc…). HOWEVER, I also appreciate every single day that they are healthy, I don’t take one minute for granted, I don’t go to bed without hugging them and telling them I love them, and I don’t stress over unimportant things. So, to sum it up- life can change in an instant, so enjoy EVERY moment! 🧡🎗️🥰

Well, I realized that I never updated you guys on Carson’s hospital visit last Wednesday… his labs looked good and his incision is now closed- so risk of infection should be low now. Thank you all for the kind words and prayers. Carson is living it up this summer; filled with lots of water, friends, and baseball 🧡🎗️💦☀️🙏
