January Elementary Student Spotlight
Let’s give a huge round of applause to Corbin Owens from A.S. Rhodes Elementary, our January Elementary Student Spotlight!

Corbin’s story is a powerful reminder that with hard work and a "can-do" attitude, anything is possible. Earlier this year, Corbin struggled with math, even telling his teacher, "I am horrible at math. It hates me!"

But instead of giving up, Corbin decided to change the narrative. Check out his amazing journey:

-Unstoppable Growth: Corbin has attended almost every tutoring session since August—often arriving at school 30 minutes early several days a week!
-Active Learner: He practices his skills at home and isn’t afraid to ask questions in class whenever he needs a little extra help.
-Outstanding Character: Beyond his academics, Corbin is known for his incredible manners and kindness. He encourages his classmates to be the best versions of themselves every single day.

Corbin, your grit and determination are an inspiration to all of us at WCPS. We are so proud of the way you've tackled challenges head-on!

Warren County School Board Unanimously Appoints Dr. Troy Wright as New Superintendent

At its November 5th School Board meeting, the Warren County School Board voted unanimously to appoint Dr. Troy Wright as the new Superintendent of Warren County Public Schools,
following a smooth and collaborative hiring process.

After extensive interviews and many hours spent with Dr. Wright, all members of the School Board expressed complete confidence in his leadership and vision for the future of Warren County’s schools and are eager to welcome him as an active and community-focused leader.

“From the moment we met Dr. Wright, we knew he had the experience, insight, and passion to lead our division forward,” said Dr. Kristen Pence, Chair of the Warren County School Board. “His genuine dedication to students, teachers, and families—along with his proven record of success—will make him a wonderful addition to our community.”

Dr. Wright brings more than three decades of experience in public education, having served as a teacher, assistant
principal, principal, and most recently as Deputy Superintendent of King George County Schools. He previously led Riverbend High School in Spotsylvania County, one of Virginia’s largest and most successful high schools with approximately 2000 students, where his leadership was characterized by collaboration, innovation, and a relentless focus on student success.

Throughout his career, Dr. Wright has earned the respect of his peers for his instructional leadership, fiscal responsibility, and ability to build strong, trusting relationships among staff, students, and the broader community. He is known as a thoughtful, visionary leader who fosters teamwork and empowers educators to reach their fullest potential.

Dr. Wright has been widely praised by colleagues and supervisors alike for his transformative leadership style. As one colleague wrote, “He is passionate about creating a learner-centered, equity-focused, and transformative school culture.” Another noted, “You will find no one more dedicated, committed, and loyal to the mission of public education.”

“It is an honor to be selected as the next Warren County Public Schools Superintendent,” shared Dr. Wright in accepting his new role. “During the interview process, I was able to engage with many staff and students who revealed a genuine love and enthusiasm for Warren County. I am excited to collaborate with the Warren students, staff, families, and community members to enhance the opportunities available for our students and deepen the connection between our schools and community. I am grateful to the School Board for trusting me to serve the
school division in the role of Superintendent, and I look forward to supporting the great work of Warren County Public Schools.”

The School Board expressed gratitude to all who participated in the superintendent search process and emphasized their shared enthusiasm for the future.

“Selecting a new superintendent is one of the most important decisions a board can make,” said Dr. Pence. “This entire process was defined by collaboration, transparency, and unity from start to finish. We’re confident Dr. Wright will be an outstanding leader for Warren County’s students, staff, and families. He’s ready to meet challenges head-on, make the most of our resources, explore new ways to improve, and ensure we continue
providing the very best for our students and our community.”

Dr. Wright will officially assume his duties as Superintendent of Warren County Public Schools on December 1, 2025. The School Board deeply appreciates the crucial role that the current Interim Superintendent, Dr. J. David Martin, has played since being hired, and looks forward to his continued support, mentorship, and wisdom as Dr. Wright begins his tenure as the Superintendent of Warren County Public Schools.
