Adopting our neighborhood streets means more to us than picking up litter periodically. It also means an occasional TNR event! 🐾

We easily trapped our first three this morning because these poor guys are so hungry.

If anyone nearby has a couple of cat traps we could borrow, we’d love to add two more cats to our TNR run tomorrow morning. We only need two traps and can return them Thursday or Friday.

Our budget can only handle five cats total this time, but if we can borrow two more traps, we can get five of our neighborhood cats spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and returned instead of just three.

Of course, if you want to loan a trap and want to contribute the $100 cost to TNR another neighborhood cat, we’d be happy to make room for one more! ❤️

Anybody have a couple we can borrow? 🐈

This is what courage looks like.

Roger aka Rog has needed this fundoplication surgery for years, but fear always stood in the way. Today, despite being absolutely terrified, he found the strength to climb into that hospital bed and face it head on.

He asked if we would share this because he would appreciate knowing people are thinking of him today.

If you have a moment, please send a prayer, a kind thought, or a few words of encouragement his way. We know they would mean the world to him.

You've got this, Roger. We believe in you, and we'll be right here waiting for you on the other side of anesthesia. ❤️

One of the many blessings of life isn't just the destination, but the journey.

We love driving up the mountain to take Candy to work at the Northern Virginia 4-H Educational Center. We encourage our caregivers not to rush. We slow down, enjoy the scenery, and keep our eyes open for not only the happy young summer campers, but the incredible wildlife that calls these mountains home.

Almost every trip brings a special encounter. Deer, rabbits, groundhogs, squirrels, turkeys, and even the amazing dogs training at the ATF Bureau Canine Kennel on the corner. Today, we were fortunate enough to witness a mother deer and her tiny fawn happily frolicking through the forest.

These are the kinds of experiences that enrich the lives of our residents. They inspire conversation, spark curiosity, encourage mindfulness, and remind us that joy is often found in the simplest moments.

At Abode of Liberation, we believe a meaningful life is built not only through independence, but through experiences that connect us with our community, with one another, and with the natural beauty surrounding us.

Sometimes, the best part of the day is simply slowing down long enough to notice it.
