Yesterday, in one of our sessions, our sweet Pepper was singing.

In the middle of her song, she forgot the words
and softly went, “da, da, da…”

So I joined her.
“Da, da, da…”

And we both just smiled and kept going.

Sometimes, life is about pausing in the middle of the day
and singing with someone…
even when the words don’t make sense.

Today at the nursing home — my favorite place, with my favorite people.

We made flowers, shared laughs, and created moments that matter.

This is what art is about: connection, joy, and being present.

Today I held someone’s baby so she could have a few minutes for herself.

During one of our sessions today, I invited a lady to join the group and create something with us. She smiled and said she couldn’t because she needed to take care of her baby. In her arms she was holding a doll, but to her, that baby was very real.

I gently asked if she would trust me to hold the baby for a few minutes so she could take a little time for herself and try some art.

She looked at me, smiled, and said yes.

I held the baby and told her, “Your baby is beautiful.”

She proudly replied, “Yes… she has beautiful blue eyes.”

While I held the baby, she sat down with the group and began creating. Soon I started hearing her say:

“Wow…”
“Oh my God, this is fun.”

When she finished, she came back and thanked me for holding her baby so she could enjoy a few minutes of art.

It reminded me of something important.

So many of us carry responsibilities, worries, and invisible weights every day. Sometimes we become so busy taking care of everything and everyone that we forget to give ourselves even a small moment.

Art can be that moment.
A moment to pause.
A moment to breathe.
A moment to feel joy again.

Moments like this are the reason Bahar Legacy Art exists.

Why does art matter?

Because creativity gives voice.
Because connection heals.
Because even in memory care, expression still lives.

This is more than painting.
This is humanity.

Hi, I’m Zahra Jahanyfard , founder of Bahar Legacy Art.

After nearly 30 years as an artist and teacher, I believed I understood the power of art. But everything shifted when I began teaching a friend’s mother. What started as a small, simple session became something profound. In those quiet moments, I saw how creativity could awaken memory, restore dignity, and create real connection.

That experience gave my life new purpose.

Bahar Legacy Art was born from that moment — a nonprofit dedicated to serving seniors, especially those in memory care communities, through meaningful art experiences that build connection and strengthen community.

I believe art is more than expression. It is belonging. It is respect. It is a bridge between generations.

I am deeply honored to continue this work with heart and intention.
