Must Care is in the process of trying to help a very familiar family find a new reliable car (near The Colony, Texas). We have worked with this very hard-working single mom of seven for several years. She just totaled her car last week – two weeks after her insurance lapsed. We are looking for an honest local dealership who can give us a good deal on a large vehicle. If you might be or might know the right person to help, please let us know as soon as possible. Good morning. Must Care has been helping a single mom of 7 for years now.

To keep a very long story short(er), she has a minivan that has 172,000 miles on it. She keeps getting flat tires because they are doing major roadwork on her street. We first thought about getting brand new tires (she was getting cheap ones on her own - we didn't know), but then realized that if the van has that many miles on it, what else could be wrong with it? Possibly looking for someone (local to The Colony, TX) who could inspect her car (in her driveway, since she still has flats) and give us an honest assessment about whether we should spend $$ to get the van in good shape, or just trade it in...

We are considering replacing her car with something more reliable, which can still hold up to eight people. I know it is a long shot, but I wanted to ask here first before we go to any dealership and have to deal with negotiating. Hoping for either a tax-deductible donated vehicle, or a reasonably priced one that our nonprofit could afford, or at a minimum, a volunteer to inspect and help us make a sound decision.

Many of you so graciously helped last year with moving a single mom of 4 into a home. We are now, once again, asking for your help.

We now have a single mom of 7 (age ranges 2-13), with whom we have worked for several years, moving from transitional living into her own rental home in The Colony.

As of right now, we do not need any furniture. If that changes, we will let you know.

This is what we do need;

A minivan that seats 8, or any car would do right now. (I know, big ask)
2 shower curtains with liners, hooks, and shower curtain bars
Bars for the closets to hang clothes
Bathroom rugs/mats
Hangers
Bath towels, hand towels, washcloths
Kitchen towels
Any kind of cleaning supplies
Large trash can for kitchen and trash bags
Small trash cans and bags for bathrooms (2)
Toilet paper
Paper towels
Paper plates, napkins
Laundry detergent
Dishwashing detergent
Toilet bowl cleaner (preferably the disposable ones)
Broom and dustpan
Swiffer wet and dry
TV
Vacuum
Footstool or small ladder
Microwave
Office Supplies
Small toolbox / basic set of tools
Food
Gift cards

Some of you may remember that last August, we helped a single mom of four with donated furniture, household good, clothes, and supplies. It was a wonderful day for her and her kids.

Unfortunately, these past few weeks have been extremely difficult for the family, and they had to abruptly move back to northern Louisiana, taking only what she could fit in the car.

Upon arrival, the expected help from family did not happen and they are once again homeless, living out of their car. All of them - mom, 14yo boy, 11yo girl, 4yo girl, and 2 yo boy. The kids are in school, but they sleep in the car with all of their belongings.

She has found a nearby cousin willing to let them sleep on the floor, so sent them (this morning) air mattresses, sheets, and pillows.

The mom has an appointment next week with the local Housing Authority to get on the housing list (her voucher moved with her to Louisiana). She has also applied for several jobs.

We are trying to support them during this very difficult transition. They need food, clothes, toiletries, pretty much everything. If you are able and willing to donate, all funds will be used to order the items the family needs, and Must Care will have everything delivered to them. They will greatly appreciate your kindness. Lincoln Carroll and Kristine Carroll are in daily contact with her.

The countdown is on to Next Steps The Colony Game Changers 2023 and our Lego raffle! In just 7 days, we will celebrate our 2nd annual casino fundraiser night. Must Care has been working with another non profit in The Colony, Next Steps. They have worked together to announce the start of our summer program called TC Kid Crew! The purpose is to provide a safe, fun and enriching environment for up to 40 children and youth (1st - 7th grades) on Saturday mornings, 9 am - 11 am, at Friendship Baptist Church. Breakfast and activities will be provided for the children and youth in attendance.
