What a special opportunity to sit down with Diane Watson, one of the early standouts who helped build the tradition of Texas Longhorn volleyball. A two-time All-American, 1985 Southwest Conference Player of the Year, and member of the SWC 1980s All-Decade First Team, Diane became the first Longhorn to earn all-conference honors in four consecutive seasons. By the time she finished her collegiate career, she was Texas’ all-time leader in kills (1,408), attacks (3,431), and digs (1,253) and had helped lead the Longhorns to their first NCAA Championship semifinal appearance in 1986. Texas recognized her impact in 2013 by inducting her into the University of Texas Women’s Athletics Hall of Honor.

But Diane’s story did not end when she walked off the court as a Longhorn. She turned her playing experience into a lifetime of teaching, coaching, and developing the next generation—including seven years as an assistant coach at Southwest Texas State and an extraordinary 26 years as head volleyball coach and assistant athletic coordinator at Round Rock High School, where her teams compiled a 731–197 record, 14 district championships, and 10 regional appearances. Today she continues sharing the game through volleyball camps and as a color commentator for Texas Volleyball. This conversation is about much more than wins and statistics—it is about history, relationships, leadership, and what Diane has learned from a lifetime in our game.

BYOPÂŽ On the GO! #70 2027 Libero - Dakota Huynh !

Join us for a conversation with 2027 Libero Dakota Huynh about a journey that began long before recruiting, club volleyball, or high school competition. Dakota first stepped onto the court with me at just 4½ years old in Your Own Parent® (BYOP®), alongside her mom. Even then, something about her discipline, focus, and willingness to learn stood out. By age 8, Dakota was joining me on Zoom—not simply practicing volleyball skills, but learning to analyze skills, strategies, and tactics and beginning to understand the WHY behind the game.

Now, years later, that little BYOP® kid has grown into a 2027 libero carrying those same qualities—disciplined, hardworking, competitive, and committed to learning. Our conversation will look back at those early years, the role her mom and family played in her development, the lessons she has carried forward, and the journey still ahead as she searches for the college coach, program, and team that will best fit her future. This is what BYOP® has always been about: small steps, lifelong lessons, and BIG futures!
