Summit County Sheriff Deactivates Flock System -
Effective today, the Summit County Sheriff's Office is deactivating its entire Flock system across unincorporated Summit County and will not use it for at least 30 days.
“Our most powerful public safety asset is the community's trust and partnership,” said Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons.
The Sheriff’s Office is conducting an extensive review of our relationship with Flock Safety and of our policies and practices. Sheriff FitzSimons added, “The right thing to do now is to pause while we continue to assess and listen to the community.”
“Reflecting on yesterday’s meeting, our community deserves better than the BOCC’s predetermined conclusions and political theater,” said Sheriff FitzSimons. “It deserves an honest conversation based on facts, evidence, transparency, and a willingness to consider perspectives different from our own, and that’s my commitment.”
Moving forward, the Sheriff's Office will continue to explore tools and strategies that support effective law enforcement and build community confidence. “Crimes and criminals evolve, and so must we,” said the sheriff. “It’s a balancing act, which is why I’m encouraging active community engagement. I want to hear from everyone on both sides of the issue.”
