It's National Color Day! A day to celebrate how vibrant the world around us is.

We figured it was a great time to share one of our new designs that will be available! In some nations, especially out west, Coyote is really important mythologic figure as well as an important part of the ecosystem. The name coyote comes from the Aztec people, coyotl from the figure of Huēhuecoyōtl.

Some tribes have stories of Coyote being acknowledged as on the same level as Earth Maker. One of those myths, Coyote sings all the other animals into being. He then gathers them all to try and create humans (to which he destroys everyone else's forms so his is used...cause Coyote).

A mandatory evacuation for all visitors on Hatteras Island takes effect at 8 p.m. tonight (Friday, October 16). A state of emergency has also been issued for Hatteras Island.

The order applies to visitors in Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, Buxton, Frisco and Hatteras Village. Residents of Hatteras Island and areas north of Oregon Inlet are not under an evacuation order.

An updated forecast indicates an increased threat from a developing coastal nor’easter. Prolonged coastal flooding and repeated ocean overwash are expected to threaten N.C. Highway 12, potentially cutting off roadway access to and from Hatteras Island for an extended period.

Visitors should leave before conditions deteriorate and roadway access is compromised. Conditions are expected to worsen Saturday and into Sunday morning, with the potential for ocean overwash around high tide.

Visitors with upcoming reservations should contact their accommodations provider to adjust their plans. Do not travel to Hatteras Island while the evacuation order is in effect.

YUCCA ROPE!

This is a freshly made piece of rope, or cordage, out of yucca on museum grounds. We've got it out in the sun to dry because she's still a bit on the wet side.
