This week alone, colleges across the U.S., from Villanova University to the University of Arkansas, faced lockdowns from false active-shooter reports. Some even included fake gunfire sounds, creating chaos, fear, and massive strain on law enforcement resources. At the U.S. Naval Academy, a midshipman was accidentally shot after mistaking police for a threat during a lockdown.

Sadly, these types of incidents happen far too frequently in spaces that should be safe havens from violence. Our thoughts are with those injured, and we wish them a swift recovery.
