๐ŸŒฝ A Unique Way to Give: Ag Commodity Donations

Did you know you can support the Friend Area Fund by donating grain or livestock?
Ag commodity gifts are a special and tax-efficient way for farmers to make an impact without writing a check.

Because markets and elevators may have limited holiday hours, please make sure all ag gifts are transferred and processed before December 29 to count for year-end giving.

This type of donation not only strengthens our local fundโ€”it also allows producers to give directly from what they grow and raise. ๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿ’›

Thank you to our agricultural community for continually supporting Friend!

๐ŸŽ Thinking About a Year-End Non-Cash or IRA Rollover Gift?

Now is the time to get started!
For your gift to count toward a 2025 tax deduction, non-cash contributions and charitable IRA rollover gifts should be initiated no later than December 23.

The process can take extra time, so beginning early ensures everything is completed before the deadline.

Recently, the Cogswell family made a very generous donation to the Friend Area Fund in the name of their parents, Charlie and Gwenda Cogswell. Charlie and Gwen made Friend their home for their entire lives and they played an integral part in many organizations and projects within our community. It was their wish that the Friend Area Fund be a recipient of this donation to continue projects and help organizations for the betterment of the community of Friend, as Charlie and Gwen did throughout their lives.
The Friend Area Fund sends sincere thanks to the Cogswell family for their generosity and their appreciation demonstrated toward our community! โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ

Shelby Steyer, Friend Area Fund Hometown Intern, has been able to finish up an ongoing project for City Hall's records of receipts for Andrew Cemetery. This project was started two years ago with Camryn Brandt getting the spreadsheet started. Boxes and boxes of stored receipts for several past decades had to be sorted and recorded. Shelby picked up where Camryn left off and was able to finish recording this information in a digital format. This spreadsheet will help when requests are made about ownership of lots at Andrew Cemetery.
Recently, Shelby invited cemetery board members and Friend Area Fund supervisors to her presentation sharing her findings and observations. This presentation also meets one of her requirements for the Nebraska Community Foundation's Hometown Internship. Each intern across Nebraska works on projects within their community but; in addition, have four "missions" to complete and share with fellow interns and NCF supervisors. THANKS, Shelby, for a job well done on this project!!

The remainder of Shelby's time as a Hometown Intern is working at the Friend Learning Center. Shelby and Director Stacy Lawver have been unpacking equipment for the facility and setting up each of the rooms at FLC. The Friend Learning Center is scheduled to open in early August. An Open House and Ribbon Cutting is scheduled on July 22nd (6-8 P.M.) Keep in mind, an anonymous donor has agreed to donate up to $10,000 in Matching Funds toward funds raised for the FLC Endowment at the Open House. The endowment has been created for scholarships for qualifying families.
The Friend Area Fund has been actively supporting the Friend Learning Center with donations and offering the use of our Hometown Intern, SHELBY!

Shelby Steyer, returning Hometown Intern for Friend Area Fund, has been busy this summer. She began the summer by recording data on a digital spreadsheet for City Hall. This completes a project she worked on last summer. Construction on the Friend Learning Center is to the stage where ordered supplies and equipment can be placed in each of the four classrooms. Shelby is now focused on assisting Director Stacy Lawver with creating an inventory for each room and assisting in the organization of the classrooms. The remainder of the summer Shelby will be work at FLC to help ensure the childcare facility will be ready to open in August.

Twenty-four young Nebraskans from every corner of the state recently gathered in Norfolk to kick off a summer of uncovering the unseen assets that make their communities unique and working with local leaders to make an impact on the places they love.
