Join us this Sunday, May 31, at the San Juan Island Grange as we come together to raise $14,000 to cover evacuation fees for Amrea and Amer.

Doors open at 4:30 PM, and the community potluck begins. Bring a dish to share if you'd like! From 4:30–6:30 PM, Glenn Hendrick, Katey Rissi, and Nathan Donnelly will be offering tarot readings in exchange for donations. During this time, you'll also have the chance to connect with your neighbors, browse our zine library, learn more about the Abu-Khaled family, purchase raffle tickets, and bid in the silent auction.

At 6:30 PM, members of the San Juan Social Justice Collective will share an update on the AbuKhaled family. The evening will continue with performances by , , Sherard, and other local musicians and artists.

Raffle winners will be announced at 8:00 PM. You do not need to be present to win.

On May 31st, join your fellow community members in coming together at the San Juan Island Grange for a Fundraising Potluck and Bake Sale. Our event will offer tarot readings by donation (3 different readers!), live music, and raffle prizes — all to help bring Amer (14yo) and Amrea (17yo) safely out of Gaza to reunite with Mahmoud, Eman, and Nawal (9yo) in Egypt. 

It's been just over a month, since Mahmoud, Eman, and Nawal escaped Gaza via medical evacuation (your donations helped make that happen!). In the month since, Eman has been able to access the necessary medical care she needs, while they stay with Mahmoud's relatives. Mahmoud is working directly with an organization coordinating safe transport out of Gaza, but the costs are immense and urgent.

Recently, we missed an opportunity to evacuate Amrea and Amer due to a lack of funds (the current gofundme amount is not an accurate representation of what we have in the bank as the vast majority of the money was used to provide survival funds to the entire Abu-Khaled family.)

And if you can’t attend, you do not need to wait until the event to help. Donations are urgently needed now. (GoFundMe link is in our bio.)

We’re excited to finally share some good news about the AbuKhaled family - recently, three members of the family were able to leave Gaza. Several family members have been on a WHO medical evacuation list for some time and at long last, Mahmoud, Eman, and their daughter Nawal were able to leave Gaza for a medical ship off the coast of Egypt. Here, they will hopefully be able to treat Eman’s ongoing and worsening medical issues.

This is a big moment. While their evacuation was ostensibly through a humanitarian NGO, they still had to pay a significant amount of money to actually leave Gaza - money they would not have had without your support for these last two years. Our only regret is that more members of the family could not join them in this huge first step towards evacuating the ongoing genocide.

The SJSJC is scrambling to figure out what’s next for Mahmoud, Eman, and Nawal, as well as what we can do to support the 19 other family members that remain in Gaza. Whatever happens, it seems clear that any progress will continue to come at a steep monetary cost. We can only help this family escape the genocide with your support.
