🌸 A Sanctuary for Women 🌸
For many women, home isn’t always a safe place. Cultural, societal, and legal barriers often leave them without options, facing harm and isolation.
On Beija Island, we’re creating a healing sanctuary—a place where women can:
✨ Escape harm and find safety.
✨ Heal emotionally, mentally, and physically.
✨ Reconnect with their strength and purpose.
✨ Prepare for an empowered future.
With the protective energy of the goddess Auset (Isis), this sacred space will foster renewal and hope. To bring this vision to life, we need your help to raise €40,000 for rent, renovations, and resources.
Together, we can make this haven a reality. 💕

The Mentors to Mentors Program has been launched! We are connecting Seattle youth and their riparian and headwaters salmon habitat to our island Southern Resident Killer Whales and forage fishy shorelines! We aim to inspire the next generation of conservation leaders in the Salish Sea. Thanks to partners MidSound Fisheries Enhancement Group, San Juan Island National Historical Park and Salish Sea Voyaging Society. Big thank you to our funders: National Park Foundation and Kiwanis Auburn and to our profound guest speakers: Kelley Balcomb-Bartok, Dr. Deborah Giles, Katherine Dietzman, Kaeley Pruitt-Hamm, and Val and Leslie Veirs. Contact us if you want to donate to the program. Www.onsacredgroundlandtrust.org

This Giving Tuesday, we are raising funds to support the Island Marble Butterfly Volunteer Program. Island marble habitat needs annual maintenance to grow, and the highest number of occupied habitat plots by islands marbles occurred in 2023. Without volunteers, there would be no habitat, and without habitat, there are no island marbles.

These photos are the before and after of a terraced garden constructed by On Sacred Ground in partnership with a private homeowner, taken approximately 1.5 years apart. With the right materials, you can create habitat, provide food, medicine & beauty and store water in a terraced garden.

A shot from the captive rearing lab for Island Marble Butterfly (photo by Jenny Shrum). An adult emerges from a chrysalis with crumpled wings before they spread fully. We are all crumpled too when we get out of bed.

It's estimated only 200-500 individuals remain of this federally endangered species found only on San Juan Island. We need your help! Our volunteer program is in danger of ending without funding! It's also estimated that Congress only provides 3.5% of funding necessary to recover listed species according to a 2016 study. Help us fund our volunteer program.
