Come Join the Human Race
and Raise Money For the Friends of Lost Lake Park

Sunday, September 9, 2012

Run or walk in downtown Fresno starting and finishing at Fresno's Historic Water Tower. You can choose either the 5k fun run/walk or 10k timed race. You will run past art galleries and along shaded streets while raising funds in support of Lost Lake Park.

Runners and walkers will receive a T-shirt and breakfast after the race while enjoying the Human Race Festival at Eaton Plaza: live entertainment, food, arts and more. The Human Race is the Central Valley’s newest collaborative community fundraiser supporting the nonprofit sector.

See the event link to register.

Participants are asked to reach out to their network of friends,
co-workers, classmates and family members and collect donations on behalf of the park. It’s that simple! 100% of the money collected goes straight to the park.

For those of you who need directions, here's a link to a Google map to Lost Lake Park. Please note the destination icon is slightly south of the entrance to Lost Lake Park - in other words, keep driving until you see the entrance sign, don't just try to follow the Google map. It's right on Friant Road and very easy to find.

This is a reminder.

Tomorrow, we are repainting the restroom near the entrance fee booth. This morning the restroom was hosed down inside and out, so everything is "GO" for a makeover.

If you would like to do something other than paint, the park grounds could use a pick up. We will have gloves, trash bags and grabbers available.

Please be sure to bring water, snacks and hats.

Hi Everyone,

Next Saturday, July 21, we will repaint one of the restrooms at Lost Lake Park – the one by the entrance fee booth.

This project is much easier than our previous painting projects because the building needs only one coat of paint. The building is simply constructed, and most of the painting can be done standing on the ground using rollers with handle extensions. (We will need a couple of ladders, however, to paint the trim.)

An Eagle Scout project will be going on nearby. With help from two groups, that area of the park is sure to look its best.

The more participants, the better. To get the entire project finished by noon, we need around 15 volunteers. If you haven’t had a chance to participate in a while, please come out and join us.

Please join us for a meeting of the Friends of Lost Lake Park this Thursday, June 7, 2012, at 9:00 a.m. at the River Center.

The focus will be studies that have taken place at the park this past spring. Ryan McHenry, a student at Fresno State University, has created an electronic map of the park. He will explain how he created it and how we can use it to further our volunteer effort. He will provide us with a better understanding of the flow of groundwater within the park boundary. There will also be a brief summary of a recent field study by CSUF biology majors that suggests a problem with the quality of the surface water on the neighboring Conservancy property.

It should be a very interesting morning, and all are invited. It was great to see new faces at our last meeting.

Our volunteer organization, Friends of Lost Lake Park, was officially endorsed by the Fresno County Board of Supervisors last fall. Since that time, a small group has met every two weeks to work out the details of the organization and to figure out how we can best help the county with the park.

Our organization is beginning to find its way, and we think we know what we’re doing – kind of. We are at a crucial point in the development of our organization and would benefit greatly from new ideas and added energy. Please consider joining us at the discussion table. We meet very 2 weeks – on the first and third Thursdays of the month from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Coke Hallowell Center for River Studies, 11605 Old Friant Road.*

If you would like to share your thoughts or just learn more through listening, please join us at the River Center.

Next Saturday, May 12, we plan to put the final touches on the campground area. We will be finishing up the painting of the campground fee booth and checking to see that the area is free of debris and in good working order for the reopening of the campground. If there is time, we will check the area once more for unwanted Italian thistle and spruce up a couple more picnic areas.

We have changed our startup time to 7:00 a.m.

Join us if you can!

Join us at Lost Lake Park this Saturday, May 5. We will prepare the campground for opening day. The biggest tasks will be painting the campground kiosk and sprucing up the area where the new camp host will be living. We will also prepare the picnic areas for summer use. The weather will be great and the company even better. If you wish to arrive before the 8:00 a.m. start time, please do so. The main gate opens at 6:00 a.m.

For more information, contact Radley at [email protected]. Hope to see you there!
