Leslie Feinberg: self-described anti-racist white, working-class, secular Jewish, transgender, le***an, female revolutionary communist, born in 1949.

Leslie wasn't shy about connecting the dots across race, gender, imperialism, and class.

She was raised in Buffalo NY in a working-class Jewish family, and hustled to make a living working in temp jobs in her teens. When she was in her 20s, she met members of the Workers World Party at a protest for the self-determination of Palestinians and joined the Buffalo branch of the party. After moving to NYC, she participated in anti-war, anti-racist and pro-labor protests with the party for many years.

Her first novel, the 1993 ‘Stone Butch Blues’ won the Lambda Literary Award and the Stonewall Book Award. Her writings on LGBT history, “Lavender & Red” frequently appears in the Workers World newspaper.

She was an outspoken supporter of Palestinian self-determination. In a 2007 speech given to the first public conference of Aswat (an organization for LGBT Palestinian women), she said:

“I am with Palestinian liberation with every breath in my body; every muscle and every sinew.”

Along with many other awards, she was one of the 50 inaugural pioneers inducted on the National LGBTQ Wall of Honor within the Stonewall National Monument in NYC’s Stonewall Inn in 2019.

At Together Across America, we are deeply concerned about the rising threat to our democracy and the violations to our Constitution. We also know that Americans are called to citizen engagement and the way you keep a republic is to organize and take action! We are grateful to Country First’s Annual Dash for Democracy for this guidance on how to help ensure we will continue to have free, fair and safe elections....

Poll workers are the citizens responsible for making Election Day run smoothly and fairly. They help set up the polling place, check in voters, explain the voting process, assist individuals who may need help casting their ballot, and ensure that election rules are followed so every vote is counted....
