At Valley Center for the Blind, we believe that achievement has no limits, and Gabriella Bigler continues to prove it. Congratulations to our 2026 Dining in the Dark Bakersfield guest speaker on winning a gold medal at the 2026 World Rowing Championships as a member of Team USA's PR3 Mixed Coxed Four crew. Gabriella and her teammates not only won the world title by setting a World Championship best time but also made history by ending Great Britain's 15-year dominance in the event! Gabriella's determination, leadership, and commitment to inclusion make her a valuable role model, and we are thrilled to continue cheering her on as she breaks barriers and inspires others. Congratulations, Gabriella!

Each athlete wears a gold medal around their neck as they sit closely together with their arms around one another. A large American flag fills the background, along with event logos and signage from the rowing competition in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

VCB is excited to welcome HapWare for a hands-on demonstration of ALEYE, a wearable technology designed to make nonverbal communication more accessible during social interactions.
HapWare builds the ALEYE haptic wristband for people who are blind, low vision, or are DeafBlind. ALEYE integrates with Meta glasses to recognize nonverbal cues and communicates that information through distinct vibration patterns on the wristband.
For example, ALEYE can communicate facial expressions such as a smile or frowns, gestures such as a wave or hand shake, and body language such as a head nod, someone walking away, or crossed arms. ALEYE can communicate over 27 nonverbal cues in real time.
Attendees will have the opportunity to wear the latest ALEYE prototype, experience the haptic feedback firsthand, see the Meta glasses integration in action, and share feedback directly with the HapWare team.

Our staff and clients had an amazing weekend of adventure and connection at the Central California Adaptive Sports Center 🌲☀️
Two Valley Center for the Blind staff members joined three of our clients for a fun-filled weekend exploring the outdoors and trying new things. From paddle boarding and hiking to rock climbing and more, everyone had the opportunity to challenge themselves, build confidence and, most importantly, have fun! 🧗‍♀️🛶🥾
We’re so grateful for opportunities like this that encourage independence, adventure and meaningful experiences in the great outdoors. What a memorable weekend! 💙
