Four Scouts. Years of hard work. One well-earned milestone!

Last Thursday night, these four Scouts earned the rank of Eagle Scout, and Sequoia Council is proud to celebrate their achievement!

Each journey took persistence, leadership, and a commitment to serving others. Behind each Scout were families, volunteers, and fellow Scouts who encouraged them along the way. Thank you for helping them reach this moment.

A successful afternoon—and homework still to do!

Sequoia Council Chair John Marshall shared this story from a recent popcorn stop:

About a week ago, I stopped at the Vons at Cedar and Shepherd in Fresno around 7:30 p.m. A uniformed Scout and her father were selling popcorn and packing up to head home.

I teasingly asked why she was packing up so early.

“I have to go home and do my homework,” she told me.

I bought a bag of Salted Caramel popcorn and asked how long she had been selling.

“Since 4:00 p.m.”

When I asked how much she had sold in those three and a half hours, she replied, “Including the bag you just bought, I’ve sold $550 worth of popcorn here this afternoon.”

I believe that made it a successful afternoon!

The 2026 Shootout for Scouting brought together more than 100 supporters at the Kingsburg Gun Club for a memorable day of fellowship, friendly competition, and investment in young people.

With 15 teams participating, the event’s success reflects the extraordinary commitment of our sponsors, shooters, volunteers, committee members, and community partners. Their support strengthens Scouting programs throughout the Central Valley and helps ensure that Sequoia Council, Scouting America, continues to shape the lives of young people for generations to come.

Thank you to everyone who played a part in this year’s Shootout for Scouting. We are pleased to share a few photographs capturing the people and spirit that made the day so special.

In Loving Memory of Patrick James Meyers

Sequoia Council mourns the loss of Patrick “Pat” Meyers. An Eagle Scout and longtime Scoutmaster, Pat gave decades of his life to Scouting. He mentored young people, shared his knowledge of shooting sports, and gave his time wherever he could make a difference.

Pat’s service to Scouting was invaluable. The care, humor, and generosity he brought to our council cannot be replaced. His legacy lives on in the Scouts he guided and the people who were fortunate enough to serve alongside him.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Raean, their family, and all who loved Pat. Rest in peace, Pat. Thank you for everything you gave to Scouting.

Congratulations to Tah-Heetch Lodge's newest Vigil Honor recipients, Mark Millett, Riverbend District, and Isaiah Stewart, San Joaquin District. They completed the full requirements and were recognized just before the end of the Lodge Induction Weekend on September 13, 2026. They join Ronan Aleman, completed his requirements in March, as the full class of new Vigil honorees for 2026. Adult member Mark, became a member of the Order of the Arrow in September 2012. Young Adult members Ronan and Isaiah were both Inducted in March 2022.

The Vigil Honor is a high mark of distinction and this recognition is reserved for those Arrowmen who, by reason of exceptional service, personal effort, and unselfish interest, have made distinguished contributions beyond the immediate responsibilities of their position of office to one or more of the following:

Lodge
Order of the Arrow
Scouting community
Scout Camp

Candidates for Vigil honor are selected by the lodge youth members, with only those who are not eligible to be a candidate being allowed deliberate and vote. The number of new candidates are limited by the number of current members and the selection slate must have at least 50% youth names. This recognition is not simply earned through time. It reflects a lasting example of servant leadership and a willingness to quietly give back to others.

Congratulations. Mark, Isaiah, and Ronan, on this well-deserved honor!

Today, as we remember those lost on September 11, we also honor the courage, compassion, and service shown in the days that followed.

“Do a Good Turn Daily” is more than part of the Scout slogan. It is a way of life. A Good Turn does not have to be grand. It can be helping a neighbor, including someone who feels left out, or stepping forward when help is needed.

May we never forget, and may we continue to serve others every day.
