On November 4th 2004, Jeremiah Baro and Jared Hubbard were killed in action in Iraq. On the first anniversary of the day in which the two great friends made the ultimate sacrifice in fulfiling their commitment to our great nation, a group of close friends struggled to conceive a way to both honor and remember them. Although neither Baro or Hubbard were golfers, a golf tournament was deemed to be a

fitting atmosphere for the friends of the fallen to congregate and celebrate their lives. The first year was small and casual consisting of 20 participants, the most important of which was Jared Hubbard's father, Jeff. After the round, there was talk of expanding the tournament and perhaps even raising some money for a scholarship fund that had already been set up in the name of Baro and Hubbard and Buchanan High School. Over the last 11 years the tournament has expanded its scope; donating over $250,000.00 to the Fresno Veteran’s Affairs Hospital.

A big thank you to our supporters who continue to help raise funds for our local VA Hospital in Honor of the Buchanan 8 🇺🇸

VA Central California leadership was honored to accept a generous $25,000 donation on February 11. It was presented by organizers of the 21st Annual Hubbard-Baro Memorial Golf Tournament, held November 11, 2025, at Fort Washington Country Club.

Since 2005, this remarkable tournament has contributed more than $1 million to support local Veterans. These funds strengthen essential programs including adaptive sports, mental health recovery services, and assistance for homeless Veterans.

The tournament pays tribute to Nathan and Jared Hubbard, Jeremiah Baro, and other fallen Valley heroes. We are grateful for a community that continues to honor their sacrifice by investing in the care and well-being of those who served.

VA Central California was pleased to accept a generous donation of $45,000 from the organizers of the 20th Annual Hubbard-Baro Memorial Golf Tournament on January 24th.
The golf tournament was held on November 11, 2024, at Fort Washington Country Club. This is the latest donation since 2005. These funds have supported vital programs for local Veterans, including adaptive sports, mental health recovery, and services for homeless Veterans.
The tournament honors the memory of Nathan and Jared Hubbard, Jeremiah Baro, and other fallen Valley heroes, reflecting the community’s gratitude for their sacrifice and commitment to supporting Veterans and their families.
