USGBC Central California is a nonprofit with the mission to engage San Joaquin Valley communities in the transformational development and promotion of ecologically healthy built environments. Places that give people better, brighter, healthier spaces to live, work and play. Green building is a win-win, offering both environmental and economic opportunity. Greater building efficiency can meet 85 percent of future demand for energy in the United States and a commitment to green building has the potential to generate 2.5 million jobs.

🌊🛶 Turning education into action on the San Joaquin River!
Our first-ever Zero Waste Academy event took participants out on the water for a hands-on Trash Canoe Trip, where volunteers helped clean up the San Joaquin River and experienced firsthand the impact that waste has on our waterways.

A huge thank you to Richard Sloan, the &KayakClub, and all of the incredible volunteers who paddled, picked up trash, and helped make a difference. 💚

Sponsored by the Fresno Metro Flood , the Zero Waste Academy is about more than learning about waste—it’s about seeing its impacts up close and empowering our community to take action.

From the river to our neighborhoods, every piece of waste we prevent from becoming litter makes a difference. ♻️

We are excited to launch the Zero Waste Academy this fall with four events focused on learning about waste, it’s impact on nature and our communities, the management of trash, and small and big ways to reduce the impact of waste through small and systematic waste reduction strategies. Participants will learn about strategies and tools to reduce their waste in big and small ways..

The heat coming, what can we do about it?

Extreme Heat is one of the major climate challenges our region is facing, and we are excited to offer the upcoming training “Extreme Heat for Contractors and Landscapers” on June 18th from 12-2:30pm as free resource to our community.

This Extreme Heat training benefits those who work directly with residents, homeowners, property managers and building owners to understand options to make buildings more resilient to extreme heat. The foundation of this content is focused on short and long-term impacts of extreme heat on worker and community health and details strategic solutions to mitigate those impacts.

We had a wonderful time on our tour to the new Zero Net Energy office buildings at Terranova Farms on the West Side of Fresno with the architect and team from and engineering team . Sustainability and efficiency are key to the farms ag operation in dealing with water, crop choices and circularity in material use, and an efficiency energy design a no brainer when the team made important design considerations. Built with passive design solutions for shading and long term building maintenance, the project is intentional in material choices, reducing operational cost, sustaining a move to an electric ag operation and a view over the farm fields from each office and meeting space. Thanks to the Fresno County Rural Transit Agency for the ev bus ride from Fresno to the farm!
