URHere

URHere UR Here Theater stages socially impactful productions, giving a platform to diverse voices and letting art be our activism.

We dream of a community connected by the transformative power of the arts. The UR Here Mission:
UR Here produces material that amplifies the voices of under-represented communities in the arts. We seek to entertain, enrich, and educate by bringing high quality performances; diverse, intersectional stories; and immersive experiences to the community. We strive to inspire and empower, promoting dive

rsity and equality in all that we do. The UR Here Vision:
UR Here is a nonprofit arts organization that produces content in the Central San Joaquin Valley. We aim to amplify the voices of under-represented groups throughout the Central Valley by:

Ensuring diverse and inclusive representation in content produced, on stage, and on all levels behind the scenes. Expanding our efforts beyond the stage, into the community by seeking out opportunities to partner with diverse community organizations, not only in the UR Here space but beyond the footlights of the stage. One of the many goals of UR Here is to produce work of social and human importance: that highlights topical issues (pandemics, immigration, mental health crises, etc.), and timeless issues (racism, classism, socio-economic disparities, intolerance, etc.) The work cultivated will expose the Central Valley to experiences intended to spark conversation, encourage positive action, and motivate constructive change:
Performances will include a dramaturg-led introduction and post-show talk back. Educational opportunities, such as workshops, will be part of every series.

Karan Johnson plays Shirley in our upcoming reading of The Secretary. She says, “Gun violence is an ongoing and worsening problem in this country. I fear we are becoming inured to the daily mass shootings. Any time attention can be paid to the problem is good; maybe this satirical account can make people think.”

Join us for our second reading (and talkback) of this funny, sharp, relevant play, happening at 6pm this Thursday at CMAC in downtown Fresno. Tickets are still available at urheretheater.com/upcoming.

Heather Short is playing Lorrie in our showings of The Secretary. “If art is the ultimate form of expression, then the artist’s primary duty isn’t to a political agenda, but to the moment itself,” she says. “Peers will always offer praise or criticism, but the core responsibility remains: to create honestly in the here and now.”

Our first reading and talkback is today at 2pm at . Tickets are available at the door or at urheretheater.com. We hope to see you there!

“I would describe Janelle as a little ditzy, extremely empathetic (to those she cares about), and a little bit of a desperate optimist,” Sabrina Sierra says of her character in our upcoming readings of The Secretary. “She stays true to herself even when that means getting absurdly emotional over the most trivial office mishaps.”

Sabrina says the most challenging aspect of playing Janelle is navigating between the emotional vulnerability, comedic timing, and professional demands of her environment. Come see what she means this Saturday at or Thursday at . More info in our bio or at urheretheater.com.

Jayne Day plays Ruby in our upcoming readings of The Secretary. “She’s sharp, opinionated, and not afraid to stand her ground—even when she’s the only one in the room who feels that way,” Jayne says of her character. “That’s honestly what I love most about her; she doesn’t back down, and I connect with that more than I probably should.” Come see Jayne and the rest of the cast this Saturday at or the following Thursday evening at . Casey Ballard is an actor, director, and costume designer who has worked in Portland, OR; Long Beach; and Fresno. She has directed for Selma Arts Center as well as The Fools Collaborative. The Secretary is her directorial debut with UR Here. She says, “You should see this play for the silliness that is actually holding a mirror up to the absurd, and at times horrific, realities of our modern circumstances. The play touches on themes of violence, abuse, neglect, and safety (or lack there of) while also delivering hope in the strength of community.” 🎟️ Get your tickets and learn more at urheretheater.com.
