This evening McKinley 4-H spent time at the Tilley Elementary School carnival, sharing 4-H with the public. Our main focus for this event was a livestock encounter that included boer goats, pygmy goats, sheep, rabbits, turkeys, chickens, 2 pups and a tiny piglet. The public learned things like how to tell the difference between young chickens and turkeys, and the difference between sheep and goats and that Pygmy goats are a small breed of goats not baby large breed goats. Our members grew their knowledge and skills as well. Our new club president worked on a TikTok video that included some of our more reserved members, she and our new VP took our youngest member to the very tall slide and helped her conquer her fears of it. Our new treasurer who is quite reserved, got involved and offered to help without needing to be asked. Our member who struggles with leaving the safety of his house was able to join us and stay for 2 hours. They all worked on their public speaking skills in one way or another and practiced slowing their energy down when working with the animals for the safety of them, the animals and the public. The night was filled with stepping outside of their comfort zones with the support and encouragement of their clubmates. πŸ’šπŸ€πŸ’š 4-H making the best better.

We had a great time today meeting new people at both the Tractor Supply Co. Demo Days event and the Possibilities Center's Easter event. We met so many amazing families and we are thankful to both groups for inviting us out today.

I'd like to take a moment to address William's middle finger being up in these pictures in case anyone is offended by it. William has level 2 autism as well as Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and struggles with outdoor/community events, among many other things. At this moment in time he really struggles with any events outside of his home/property, "his controlled safe space" He rarely wears clothes or shoes due to sensory processing issues. Today we were able to get him dressed and to the Easter event with maximum support. He struggled to enjoy any of the booths that were set up, and he wasn't able to participate in the egg hunt due to his anxiety, BUT he did tolerate wearing clothes today for 3 hours and he did enjoy laying on the grass with his big sister and he did participate in the club photos which are all huge wins for him right now. We apologize if William ever puts the middle finger up toward you and we ask you to have grace and patience with him as he countinues to work through his anxiety and other unseen obstacles and practices appropriate social behavior in the community. πŸ€πŸ’šπŸ€ 4-H gives him and all of our members the opportunity to Learn by Doing and we are so grateful for our McKinley 4-H family. πŸ’šπŸ€πŸ’š

Its been a busy month, here are some pictures from the petting zoo and carnival games we did as community service for Central Valley Veteran's, as well as pictures from our most recent arts and crafts project meeting and our April general club meeting. Today we will have a booth at the Tractor Supply on North Brawley and Herndon. Right now it is Clover Drive and Demo Days, which means we will have homemade strawberry lemonade for those who donate directly to our booth (while supplies last) and Tractor Supply will have riding lawn mowers for you to test drive before purchase. In the afternoon we will be at Liddell Elementary with our petting zoo, supporting our autism community. πŸ’šπŸ€β€οΈπŸ€πŸ’™πŸ§©
