This evening McKinley 4-H spent time at the Tilley Elementary School carnival, sharing 4-H with the public. Our main focus for this event was a livestock encounter that included boer goats, pygmy goats, sheep, rabbits, turkeys, chickens, 2 pups and a tiny piglet. The public learned things like how to tell the difference between young chickens and turkeys, and the difference between sheep and goats and that Pygmy goats are a small breed of goats not baby large breed goats. Our members grew their knowledge and skills as well. Our new club president worked on a TikTok video that included some of our more reserved members, she and our new VP took our youngest member to the very tall slide and helped her conquer her fears of it. Our new treasurer who is quite reserved, got involved and offered to help without needing to be asked. Our member who struggles with leaving the safety of his house was able to join us and stay for 2 hours. They all worked on their public speaking skills in one way or another and practiced slowing their energy down when working with the animals for the safety of them, the animals and the public. The night was filled with stepping outside of their comfort zones with the support and encouragement of their clubmates. πππ 4-H making the best better.
