Central Valley Café Scientifique

Central Valley Café Scientifique Central Valley Café Scientifique is a monthly forum where everyone is welcome to discuss the latest in science, over a meal and drinks. Join us!

Our goal is to add a bit of science to the regular roster of cultural activities in the great Central Valley of California! Just like Fresno’s monthly Art-Hop and other artistic events you might be familiar with in our community, we provide the opportunity to savor some science. We invite you to come explore the latest ideas in science and technology, hear from local scientists (from Fresno State

and other local institutions), connect with other science enthusiasts, and participate in making the Central Valley a place where science thrives. Following the tradition of the growing Café Scientifique movement, we meet in an informal setting outside of academia, where non-scientists can engage in stimulating (and friendly) conversation about current scientific topics with researchers “in the know”. Do join us on First Monday evenings every month during the school year.

Join Central Valley Café Scientifique at 7pm on September 3 at Tioga Sequoia Beer Garden in downtown Fresno to hear from Dr. Rory Telemeco, Director of Conservation Science at Fresno Chaffee Zoo. Dr. Telemeco will tell us about Fresno Chaffee Zoo's work to rescue the Valley Dragon (aka Blunt-nosed Leopard Lizard) and other species from extinction. After a short presentation, Dr. Telemeco will interact with guests and take questions during this evening of talking conservation and science. We hope to see you there!

“One gets the feeling that, for Stefanik and many others on the right, the reason for ousting the leaders of these universities is less important than their ousters. The target is, in part, higher education itself.”

Not all the backlash against protests on college campuses is rooted in the right’s hostility to higher education. Some of it clearly is.

In addition to fascinating local bird watchers, roughly 15,000 crows that roost in Lawrence each winter are now a test case for military technology.

Hosts, Dr, Rory Telemeco and Dr. Ulrike Muller, chat with colleagues from California State University Northridge, Dr. Lisa Chauhari and Dr. Nat Zappia, about LEK and how it can be incorporated in all disciplines to create better science in academia and beyond!
