Over the past four years, Anneliese has done amazing work developing and expanding Parkway’s Inclusion Practices, not only at River Camp, but throughout the organization.

Through services such as one-on-one support and providing specialized accommodations, we currently 57 campers able to attend Camp.

Now Anneliese is moving onward and upward! And while we are sad to see her go we are looking forward to seeing her success at Mendoza Unified. And we are happy to Have Gabi Sawyer as our new official Inclusive Practices Manager!

Beautiful male mule deer with velvet antlers crossing the San Joaquin River from Madera to Fresno.

Wildlife Wednesday Fact: Deer antlers can rapidly grow, about 1/4 of an inch a day! This growth is trigged by increased daylight and testosterone levels. After antlers are shed they provide calcium for animals such as mice and squirrels.🐿️

There’s a summer hum in the air, and it’s coming from cicadas!

Did you know there are cicada species right here in the San Joaquin Valley? Males produced their signature buzzing call, often compared to the sound of electricity, to attract females. In fact, their call is one of the loudest sounds produced by any insect!

Unlike the famous periodical cicadas of the East Coast, California cicadas are annual. That means they emerge every year in much smaller numbers, so there’s no need to worry about massive swarms. Instead they’re buzzing is simply one of the sounds that signal summer has arrived.

What do they have in common?

Turkey mullein (Croton steiger), Bird’s foot Trefoil (Acmispon americanus), and Vinegar W**d (Trichostema lanceolatum) are common sights during the summer in the Central Valley.

How do these plant survive the hot and dry weather? Have you ever seen these plants?
