Troop 301 was saddened to hear of the passing of Rhyen Valdez. Rhyen was a great addition to our team during Club Chawanakee, and he will be dearly missed. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.

Fresno State held a moment of silence for Rhyen Valdez, a student who died the night before his graduation, and the university and city are honoring him by naming the Veterans Resource Center after…

Way to go, Brock!! We are very proud of you!

Congratulations to Brock on earning the rank of Eagle Scout from Scouting America. For his Eagle Scout service project, Brock led a campsite and retaining wall restoration project at Lost Lake Park, helping to improve and preserve the area for future visitors and the community. In addition to earning Scouting’s highest rank, Brock also earned a Bronze Palm, recognizing his continued dedication and achievement beyond Eagle Scout.

Becoming an Eagle Scout represents years of leadership, service, and determination. Brock’s accomplishment reflects the values of Scouting and the impact young leaders can make through hard work and service to others.

Congratulations, Brock; your family, Troop 301, and community should be very proud of this achievement.

Big step toward Eagle.

Lilly wrapped up her Eagle Scout project this weekend at Terry’s House. She helped expand their fitness space by adding weights, a bench, dumbbells, and other exercise equipment. On top of that, she also provided new kitchen pots and pans to support the families staying there.

This is what an Eagle project is about. Seeing a need, organizing people, and leaving something better than you found it.

Proud of the work and the leadership it took to get it done.

Well done, Lilly.

This weekend, Troop 301 showed up in a different arena.

At the RED Robotics and Engineering Design Competition, the Design Science team earned 3rd place, and two of those team members were our own Scouts, Wyatt and Donovan.

This is what Scouting looks like in action. Problem solving, teamwork, and figuring it out under pressure.

Proud of these guys for representing Troop 301 and putting in the work.

Well done, Wyatt and Donovan.

Here is what Spenser wrote:

"Hi Scouting family,

I’m hoping you can help me do something special for my grandfather, called "Mr. Edgar" by generations of Scouts.

He dedicated over 60 years of his life to Scouting, serving as a Scoutmaster in West Tennessee and helping guide more than 1,000 young men to earn their Eagle Scout rank. He was deeply involved in the Order of the Arrow, received the Silver Beaver Award, and led countless high adventure trips to Philmont and Sea Base, amongst so much more.

Now at 89 years old (turning 90 in Dec.) , life has slowed down a bit.

He doesn’t get out much anymore, not because he doesn’t want to, but because hearing has become difficult and group settings can be overwhelming. Lately, he’s been feeling like he’s “taking up space,” which couldn’t be further from the truth.

Scouting was one of the greatest passions of his life. It shaped who he is, and he gave so much of himself to it.

So I had an idea.

If anyone is willing, I would love to surprise him with letters from fellow Scouts, past or present, sharing your favorite Scouting memories, what Scouting meant to you, or even just a note of appreciation for leaders like him who gave their time to others.

My hope is to fill his mailbox with stories that remind him of the impact he’s had, not just on individuals, but on an entire community.

If you’re interested in sending a letter, please comment below or message me and I’ll share the mailing details.

Thank you for helping me honor a man who gave so much to Scouting.

Yours in Scouting,
Spenser"
