Hello all members- this is a reminder that the last two events of this school year are SAF events and you register through their website linked below. Delta Open is 4/19 out of Orwood Marina and the State Championship is at the Delta on 5/9 going out of Ladd’s. If you’re not a BV HSA member yet but want to fish these events, you’ll need a partner and a boat. And you need to reach out to me to get your TBF memberships and numbers asap. Good luck to all the students going to these events!

If you have any questions, please contact The Student Angler Federation (SAF) SAF Membership is all that is required to fish ANY SAF State Championship, Challenge event or MLF Open Event. Congratulations to Bryce Fernandez and Daniel Verduzco for their great performance at the Student Angler Federation Open at Clearlake this weekend. Bryce and Daniel brought 19.96 pounds to the scales to finish 7th out of 53 boats trying to qualify for the HS National Championships. Big, HUGE, Thank You to boat captain Lupe Fernandez for giving the boys this amazing opportunity. OUTSTANDING!!! Next up is another Open at the CA Delta. Can’t wait to see how the teams do there!

Free Baits for High School Students! So Cole Anderson of grattbaits reached out to me a couple weeks back to say the good people of G-Ratt wanted to do something to support the high school fishing scene in CA, and would Big Valley HSA like some baits. Yes, Please! This weekend a huge box of their new 4” The Rocker soft jerkdaits landed at my door step, and I wanted to share the wealth with as many HS anglers as possible. With that in mind, I just dropped this box off with the great Tas Moua at ⁵⁵⁹ Fresno Bait and Tackle and here’s the deal- any student who shows up at the shop and shows a high school student ID gets 3 free packs of The Rocker. A student from Sanger High was in there when I dropped them off and he walked out with packs for all his Apache fishing friends. This offer is good until the gift packs run out, so hustle on down. The 5th stop of the CAHSATT tour was today at Oroville, which is no doubt a long way from Fresno. But BV HSA die-hard Brennan James wanted to make the trip and thanks to dad, Brian, and hero volunteer boat captain Mike Pawlowski (seriously, you put a post up right now and ask if someone you don’t know will tow his boat 4+hours on 99 to take you fishing, and, by the way, he doesn’t get to fish. Yeah- that’s how incredibly generous Mr. Pawlowski is) Brennan got to fish Oroville for the first time this weekend. Pretty 😎. Speaking of pretty cool- Brennan looks like he’s going for a Chris Zaldain mustache to go with those Ben Milliken glasses. I mean- pretty good combo to shoot for right there. Congratulations Brennan! And a HUGE thank you to Mike Pawlowski for making it happen. I’ll have results out when I get them and a sweet little offer to High School Anglers on the post tomorrow. Stay tuned!

The 2025 CAHSATT Millerton Lake Open is in the books! Congratulations to the East County Student Angler team Noah Nguyen and Tyler Peterson for taking the title while fishing out of captain Bob Jones’ boat. Also congratulations to the second place team Murdoc McGinnis and Andrew Norberto (Norberto had Big Fish for the event) from Folsom Lake HSA and to Big Valley HSA teammates Brennan James and Caden Lum for their third place finish while fishing out of Mike Pawlowski’s boat. Rounding out the award winners also from Big Valley (GO LOCAL TEAMS!) was Austin Burns and Max Woodward. 55 teams competed at Millerton, a record for a youth fishing tournament on the lake. Many thanks to volunteer boaters Mike Pawlowski, Bob Jones, Dave L’Argent, Danny Lopez, Seth Moua, Vacha Vang and Mike Haider for taking kids from near and far out for a day on the water. Thanks also to Brian James for designing our weigh page and inputting the weights, Sabrina James and Toni McKinnon for recording the weights on paper, and Amy Broadly for showing up early to open the park gates for the teams and then checking them in as they came off the water. HUGE thank you to Brian Orange and Todd Hayes for running the weigh stations- those guys are awesome and controlling the chaos! Also many, many thanks to Kou Xiong of Sanger custom lures for the amazing prize donations and to Tas Moua at 559 Fresno Bait and Tackle for making our budget stretch a very long way. Also to Steve Neman who emerged from the ashes of Valley Rod and Gun to drop a big donation from Rapala and affiliated brands. It takes a lot of people coming together to get these events done, and all help is greatly appreciated- Thank You All!! Next up for CAHSATT events is McClure on 12/7. Stay tuned and get involved!

The California High School Angler Tournament Trail is landing at Millerton this Sunday for its 3rd stop of the season. 56 teams will be on the water fighting for the points that may take them to the TBF National Championship in June on Lake Cumberland in Kentucky. As for Sunday, the lucky anglers are fishing for these amazing baits donated by or friend Kou Xiong of Sanger custom lures, and I for one am really jealous! Darn kids get all the cool stuff!!

Congratulations to the Big Valley High School Angler club members making the trek to Shasta Lake this past weekend for stop 2 of the California High School Angler Tournament Trail. Anglers Bryce Fernandez and Daniel Verduzco led the way with Lupe Fernandez boating followed by Brennan James and Caden Lum in the boat of a Shasta local Kevin Alexander (Thanks Kevin!) and Rossen Erickson teamed up with Minarets FC member Daniel Broadly in dad Matthew Broadley’s boat. Small fish were the norm, which kept things tight in the standings- ounces really mattered in this one. But just to be able to travel to Shasta for a tournament was a big win for our group. Great work everyone- next up is Millerton where we will host and the fish will probably remain small. But you never know- so stay tuned!

The 2025-26 California Student Angler Tournament Trail kicked off at the delta on Sunday with 42 high school and 12 junior teams. And Big Valley anglers Brennan James and Caden Lum as well as Justin Rowe and Rossen Erickson were there representing the Fresno area. Congratulations to both teams for making the trip and BIG UPS to Brennan and Caden for a top 10 finish despite it being both anglers first time on the delta. Outstanding! Next up is Shasta on 10/5 before the circuit come to Millerton on 11/9. Stay tuned for more results and reach out if you have a team and would like to compete
