Exhibition announcement!

In Mom Bras, Cassie Arnold () transforms the utilitarian art of knitting into sculptural works that are at once intimate, humorous, and quietly defiant. Rooted in her exploration of the body, motherhood, and lived experience, Arnold reconfigures an intimate garment into forms that challenge cultural expectations while remaining grounded in the physical realities they reference.

Join us for a free opening reception on Saturday, June 27 to be among the first to experience Mom Bras!

Happy belated World Bicycle Day to one of the hardest-working vehicles in Frenchtown: ArtYard's surrey.

Over the years, we've transformed this humble four-wheeler into a wave machine, a cloud, and even a roving puppet theater. For Aqualumina, led a procession of nearly 1,000 community members decked out in their aquatic finest through the night. For Hatch, it floated through town as a giant cloud with bird puppets perched overhead. Recently, it became a mobile puppet stage, bringing stories and surprises directly to community members.

Like so much of what happens at ArtYard, the surrey is a reminder that a little imagination, and a lot of community effort, can turn almost anything into a work of art.

Guess who's back?

& are proud to present Q***r Icons, life-sized portraits honoring figures from the LGBTQ+ community.

Created by Silky Shoemaker (), Q***r Icons represent pioneers in their respective fields -- Civil Rights activists, drag performers, dancers, arbiters of rock and roll, floral designers, baseball players, and film directors. They return to FiNNBAR's balcony to stand as sentinels during Frenchtown Pride's weeklong festivities.

We are sad to share the news that drag performer Dito van Reigersberg, better known as Martha Graham Cracker, has passed away at the age of 53.

We were lucky to host an incredible performance by Martha Graham Cracker this December, leaving us all delighted.

From 's report:

"Victor Fiorillo, van Reigersberg’s longtime pianist, shared news of his death, writing on Facebook: “I am absolutely devastated to tell you that my sweetest and most generous and most talented friend Dito van Reigersberg aka Martha Graham Cracker has given her last bow — or is it curtsey? Dito just died, surrounded by family and friends and music and an amazing medical team at Penn.”

A graduate of Swarthmore College, van Reigersberg was a cofounder of Philadelphia’s Pig Iron Theatre Company, where he performed in nearly all of the company’s productions since its founding in 1995, including the Obie Award-winning works Hell Meets Henry Halfway and Chekhov Lizardbrain.

In 2005, van Reigersberg introduced Philadelphia audiences to Martha Graham Cracker, the towering, live-singing drag persona who would become one of the city’s most singular and beloved performers. Famously billed as “the tallest, hairiest drag queen in the world,” Martha performed with a full band, building a genre-defying cabaret act that could move from Judy Garland to Black Sabbath, often in the same night."

Thank you, Dito, Martha, for making us smile, laugh, feel lighter, feel seen, belong.

We are thrilled to share that White Box Theatre and Sebastienne Mundheim () is bringing Kea and the Ark back to the stage June 25 to July 1 as part of the ArtPhilly: What Now? Festival at Quintessence/Sedgewick Theatre in Philly's Germantown neighborhood.

Through puppetry, dance, electric cello, and storytelling Sebastienne Mundheim/White Box Theatre shares the story of independent, revolutionary thinker and maker, Kea Tawana, a woman who built an 86-foot-long, three-story-tall ark in the Central Ward of Newark as an act of protest, tenacity, and imagination. Kea’s declaration that "there’s no place left on land for me" launched her incredible project. Originally commissioned by ArtYard in 2023, this performance has been presented by multiple colleges, theatres, and museums in the United States.
